This small mom and pops restaurant gives you the best bang for buck in La Jolla. They currently have a special where you buy 3 rolls and get 1 free. I strongly suggest you try the CA Beach Roll or the Lobster Beach Roll. It basically is a CA roll with baked scallops in special sauce on top. It is to die for.
The restaurant itself is tiny, not having a lot of seats, but if you go in off hours seating is readily available.

My husband and I love this place, and have taken most of our friends along over the course of the year because we love it so much we want them to love it too. I don't eat red meat, so I eat out to sushi a lot, have tried every sushi restaurant in the UTC/mira mesa area, and can tell you that their taste is the best. Also, at buy 3 get one free we have tried them all! Well, most of the menu. btw, they have take-out, and menus for it.
See, this place is awesome, because they have seasonal specials too. Well, besides the fact that they have such an original menu compared to other surrounding sushi places. For example, right now around fall, they probably have their monster beach roll. Oh, and you know how some sushi restaurants how they use those cheap little panko japanese bread flakes for the crunchy rolls? Not here. At the yummy box(fun name:) they use tempura=much better. Also, their special yummy sauce is the bombbbBBMMM! Oh, yummy-boxes are good too, and very filling for really cheap. Service is always up to par, but being a hole-in-the-wall type place(not like the decor isn't cute), there are only one or two people serving. I would give it a 5 as far as sushi restaurants go. btw, if you are reading this, yummy-maki people, I love you guys, and never leave...I'll be sad:(
Pros: parking, wait time, price
Cons: not open sunday

Yummy Maki Yummy Box was not a bad restaurant. For the price, I would say it's pretty satisfactory. Their lunch specials are modestly priced and it provides a relatively good deal for an average student. I would recommend it if you are around the UCSD campus and looking for a quick bite in the area.

Yummy Maki Yummy Box lures you in with its fun to say name and dirt cheap prices for sushi rolls. Located right next to UCSD campus, its hard to resist. However, be careful! My friends and I visited this place twice and out of the four of us.....2 of us got the runs right after eating here. This of course could be a coincidence as the other two friends had no problems and enjoyed the cheapenss of Yummy Maki Box to their hearts' content. The food is ok, what you would expect from a cheap Japanese restaurant. The tempura is a bit skimpy, so I would skip that though.
PROS: Cheap cheap Japanese food
CONS: Runs?

This has got to be the BEST SUSHI EVER! I absolutely adore this place. It isn't huge or anything, but it's big enough to fit most people dining in the area. The food is absolutely to die for and though people can always be seated, that doesn't mean that a lot of people aren't coming. That's the complete opposite, this place always has customers, and there really is no question why.

This place is great. The food is creative. It is not really an authentic Japanese food but it is very good. The food are designed very creatively especially the seafood with fire ones. The place is really small but it gets crowded very often so come at the right time like early lunch or early dinner will be good.

This Japanese restaurant is pretty affordable. Serves a very large variety of sushi rolls, different from traditional Japanese sushi restaurants. They also serve box sets which includes soup salad and beef terkiyaki, chicken teriyaki, and even Korean bbq beef with rice for only $5-7. It's a good place to go if you are hungry and really want to fill your stomach.

Korean owned Yummy Maki Yummy Box is located right across UCSD Campus. The Korean dishes are authentic and recommended, but the Japanese entrees are far from being authentic. Service can be slow and sporadic during lunch hours. But the sushi creations are definitely beautiful. Definitely try the Spicy Yum Yum Noodles! Remember to ask for a frequent buyer card as they reward their regular customers.
