Location, location, location... can't be beat.
Seahorses, sardines (not just an appetizer), sharks, just for starters.
Neat, clean, tidy, kid-friendly.

Admission is around $10.
However, the museum is interesting and it does have a very unique seahorse exhibit.
The seahorse exhibit is more exhaustive than at any big aquarium. They have a huge variety of seahorses and they are also constantly breeding seahorses, so you can actually see the babies at different stages of their life, from as young as a couple of weeks.
The rest of the acquarium is pretty standard, with nothing that particularly stands out.
However, if you are interested in seahorses, then this is a great place to visit.

This is a little known aquarium and quite a small one. Surprisingly, they have sharks here. I do like a lot of the little sea animals they have. Additionally, the view from the aquarium is quite nice too. Because it's not too big, you can see everything they have in a few hours. The only negative I can think of is maybe the price is a little bit expensive for such a small place.

This place is the smaller size of Sea World. It is owned and operated by the UC San Diego as their attraction and also their research center. The place is great. If you want to know more about aquatic life you should go here. They don't have many attraction like Sea World but it's still great to come and visit. The price is reasonable and it could be fun place to come with your children.

The Birch Aquarium is an extension of the UCSD campus; therefore, you have to pay for parking (but I think weekends are free). For adults, admission is about $10. It’s a small place, but it’s really fun. You’re welcomed by a huge beautiful fountain in the front. In the back, there’s a touch tank and a beautiful view of the ocean. The touch tank is great for kids and adults alike. . .there’s a really soft sea slug (I know, sounds gross but it’s really cool!). There’s a whole bunch of aquariums of sea animals from different regions of the world.

The Birch Aquarium offers some great exhibits, including sharks. In the back of the aquarium are amazing views of the La Jolla shoreline. The price of admission is almost worth it for this alone. Although the aquarium is a little small, it is definitely worth a visit. I would especially recommend this aquarium to families whose children would probably love the place.

I did not have much expectations when I went to visit this aquarium. I had heard about it but mostly people would tell me that it's good and I should go see it. I thought it was going to be just a small aquarium at UCSD, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that they do have a variety of species in the aquarium, including sharks. The view from the aquarium out back is pretty breathtaking, as the aquarium sits on a coastal bluff and overlooks La Jolla beach. My favorite part of my visit is watching them feed the seahorse. I was very surprised by the different types of seahorse there are.

As a Pisces, I especially enjoyed looking at all the aquatic life at Birch. There are many different species of fish and there are even sharks outside in the larger tanks! My favorites were the hammerhead sharks and a particular type of fish that usually has a 75 year life span. Also, there is a special area where people can pet the sharks (small ones of course) which is rather cool. I don't know about the prices for admission because I was given free admission everyday thanks to my job, but it surely can't be too steep.
