Never has ordering food in an ethnic restaurant in SoCal been so difficult for me. It began when I ordered a glass of Ravenswood Zin. After slowly repeating it 3x I finally opened the wine menu and pointed. Then came ordering my food. I asked if I could have the vegetarian combo for one (it serves two). The waiter said "Yes". I then asked him if I could replace the lentils for the bharta (eggplant)...again, he did not understand me verbally & after pointing to the menu several times he understood. Service was s-l-o-w! Slower than slow....too slow. But our water was refilled quickly & often. Dinner was good but $17.95 for 6 shrimp smaller than 1/2 dollars wasn't worth it. The amount of food for the Veg Combo was abundant...we were "wow'd!" There was SO much that my friend shared mine with me since the shrimp dish was so small! BUT then the bill came. My friend asked me to read it off....$9.00 wine $8.00 wine $17.95 shrimp $42.95 for vegetarian combo!!!!!!! We explained to the waiter we specifically asked the order taker if it could be made for one and that was what we ordered. They only took $9.00 off the tab (one glass of wine) and said that was the best they could do. Really? To come even close to paying what we thought we would be paying we would have had to deny the waiter an $11.00 tip (15%). Which we wouldn't do...he did perform his job. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT...THEY MADE THE MISTAKE AND WE PAID FOR IT! We won't go back without clarifying everything upfront and seeing the bill first!
Pros: parking
Cons: too bright, slow service, language barrier w/ English

My husband and I eat at Natraj often, the food is consistantly good and so is the service. It's tucked away in a strip mall, but aren't most restaurants? The atmosphere could be improved and the lighting is florescent but those are the worst things I can say about this place. If you live in south OC and enjoy good Indian food at a reasonable price make the trip.
Pros: Really good indian food
Cons: lighting and decoration

Reading what city search said above made my mouth gape open. Obviously written by someone without a true basis to compare Indian cuisines. This restaurant is wonderful; the food is above average for Indian restaurants nationwide and I have yet to order anything that was good! In addition, Naan is a bread that is to be eaten in the same bite as a main course, not alone. Authentically, breads such as Naan are used in place of utensils to pick up bites of food. Again, the above CitySearch reviewer doesn't even know the Indian traditions associated with food, so ignore that and try it for yourself. My recommendation: Chicken Tikka Saag for the meat eater (or Rogan Josh, made with lamb) and Bharta for vegetarians (eggplant).
Pros: authentic taste, friendly service, good prices
Cons: busy weekends
