I'd wanted to try this place for years and finally went in for a birthday dinner with my wife. It was really a wonderful experience! I can be very picky about my Italian cuisine but I must say my palate was constantly stimulated by the food here. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and the waiter even guided me to a less expensive bottle of wine than the one I'd ordered as he felt I'd be happier with it. (I was!) The best word I can think of to describe Ti Amo is " Unique " ! A terrific blend of food, service an atmosphere. I just wish we hadn't waited so ling to go in!!
Pros: Incredible food, service and atmosphere!!

I read about Hush in a magazine at my hotel, and took a chance as I do not know Orange County well. Located along a cute shopping stretch, Hush was upscale and stylish but welcoming, not snobby as one might expect in the area. We snuggled into a booth to enjoy an awesome Oregon Pinot, delicious salads, savory fish entrees and finally, a rich dessert. What a great date-night!
Pros: Romantic, awesome food, great location

I Love Javier's in Crystal Cove!!! The atmosphere, the people, the staff and especially the food. If you want to come have a relaxing lunch during the week, with a view(breath taking on a clear sunny day), you should come here. It is a little more busy during the weekend, but what do you expect. It is a happenin' place.
Their Pollo Asado is healthy and delicious. It comes with a chile stuffed with cheese, guacamole and And when you order a Margarita, order the Organic Margarita it a little more expensive than a regular margarita, but well worth it. Come enjoy great food and hang out with friends. I RECOMMEND IT!

I have been to 5 Foot before, but we'd ordered off the menu. Last night, the three of us went for the 12-course tasting 'Menu without a Menu.' Chef Kang came up and greeted us and asked if we had any special requirements. My girlfriend (who had not eaten there before) mentioned she was a vegetarian and was allergic to avocado. My father and I said we'd eat anything, and I said I have a very high tolerance for spice. What then followed (over the next 4+ hours) was extraordinary all the way around. I've read several negative reviews here and elsewhere and they all seem to be about the tasting menu. To the detractors I have this to say: the tasting menu prices are clearly marked--so you shouldn't get all huffy or surprised when you see the bill. This is not a Chinese restaurant in the typical sense. This is Chinese/French Fusion food, and boy does it work. This is not the place to go if you have a show to catch or an urgent appointment afterwards. Eating here is an experience. This *is* your destination and only item on your to-do list for the night when you show up. If you want to do the tasting menu, go on a slower night like we did and call ahead of time to see if Mr. Kang will be cooking. Around hour 2 of our night, Mr. Kang came out and asked how everything was going and if we needed to change the pace. We asked if he could slow it down a bit. He did. Seriously, those four hours flew by. By the time we were having the Fromage course, he sat down and shared drinks with us. We got the opportunity to chat him up about the food and his restaurant, and he had great stories to tell for sure! How anyone could come here and have a bad experience boggles my mind. I was watching the other tables while we ate. Every time a server came up to ask people what they thought of their meal, every single one of them gave the same expression--"wonderful!" Everyone there was very friendly--from the busboys to Mr. Kang. We left stuffed and happy. The perfect meal.

On our most recent visit to this restaurant on July 8th, 2008, we arrived early enough to order from the early bird Sunset Dinner menu. The prices for the items on this menu are approximately half of their counterparts on the regular menu --- I definitely recommend giving the selections on this menu a try as all represented very good values for the high quality preparation that this restaurant offers. Our four selections this evening from this menu were the Sand Dabs, Lobster Tail, Fillet Mignon, and Chicken Marsala --- all were fresh, hot and flavorful.
We sat on the far corner of the outermost desk, just above the beach & surf only 15 feet below -- the view was excellent, although some of us had to wear visors because there is no shelter from the sun in this section of the restaurant.
We particularly enjoyed the service that was provided. All of the restaurant employees that we encountered, from the hostess to the waitress were very friendly. Our waitress was named Mary and we think that her bubbly personality made the dinner even more enjoyable that evening. She happily went that extra mile to assist us with some special needs related to the elderly members of our party. She was also very helpful in explaining menu items and making sure that they were prepared just the way we asked for them to be prepared. She helped us save a few dollars by recommending the ordering of a 'split' bottle of Spanish sparkling wine for only $7 instead of ordering two glasses of white wine for much more.
In sum, we will return to this restaurant the next time we visit Laguna Beach for the value, food quality, the noteworthy view and the exemplary service. I'm rating it as 'highly recommended' for folks visiting Laguna Beach.
Pros: The view, friendly service, great outdoor dining place during summer.
Cons: Outer deck has no awning or shelter, so dress appropriately.

This is my favorite restaurant in Laguna Beach. They serve a great stake and fish. It's hard to recommend something specific because their menu changes quite often. This is not your normal steak house or something in that you actually order a real meal instead of a piece of stake and some sides. One thing I can recommend is their soup of the day which sounds strange, however I have so far never been disappointed with it even though it is different every time.
The place is pretty small so you should definitely get a reservation if you are not by yourself.

First let me say that the current management acquired the place in May of 2006, so any references to service before that are irrelevant.
Second, the new owner has been renovating, but continues to do his best to keep the disruption at a minimum. There will be inevitable glitches, but overall I'm pretty impressed.
Third, I have been assured that he is dedicated to returning the Royal Hawaiian to its former glory and reputation of the best and least expensive food and drink in Orange Coast area.
Finally, the place has at least two--and maybe more--distinct personalities, so when you go will determine the type of experience you enjoy.
Weekday evenings, it's a local watering hole. Not crowded. Seated and served immediately, no reservations required. Great ambiance and friendly crowds. Goof food and drink at *very* reasonable prices. The house special Lapu-Lapu is a whole lot of tasty booze in a large brandy snifter for under ten bucks. One should do the trick. Their ribs are also great--a house specialty--and also under ten bucks.
Friday and Saturday nights are a whole different story. The Royal Hawaiian metamorphoses into a very hip, very happening 20- to 30-something nightclub that spills out onto the sidewalk outside. The food and drinks are still great, but don't expect fast service--they're swamped. The timid should come back some other time. If you're bold enough to elbow your way all the way up to the bar, you should get a drink in just a few minutes. Otherwise....
I haven't had a chance to try it during the daytime--weekdays or weekends--but i imagine that when I do, I'll probably find two more personalities.
I'm a people-watcher, and a bit crazy. I'm a writer. I like places like this because in addition to being great fun, they also provide marvelous material for fiction.

230 has an amazing menu, all thanks to the world class chef. They have a full bar, with exceptional martinis. The food is amazing, especially the seafood selections. The scallops are to die for. 230 is a great place to enjoy a romantic dinner! A bit pricey, but worth the splurge. Its a small restaurant, and usually has a wait for seating. Just be patient, its worth the wait.

I had never had Caribbean food before visiting Eva's. The food is first class, followed by the fun and cozy atmosphere. The drinks are a great part of the fun too. Try a rum drink, you won't be disappointed. An explosion of good taste, try something different and be surprised. They have been around for a long time and they are always busy. You will know why once you eat here.
