Made me feel like I was bothering them with my questions. Very rude and not helpful at all.

Bad attitude and service 10/10/2012

Good But Nosy 5/3/2012

Extensive Nikon and Canon stock. Basically all sales are final. While this might sound negative, I really don't want an expensive camera returned by an uncertain buyer. They appear to know their product lines, but to be honest I didn't dig deep as I knew exactly what I was buying and didn't need their input to the selection. That said one of the two principles was rather nosy to the extent of almost causing me to walk out and spend my money elsewhere. more

Very knowledgable & friendly staff 12/4/2011

Ray, his daughter, Heather, & David are all super-nice and very helpful. They sold me a Canon digital SLR that I'm very happy with. I love that it's a family business that's been around for a long time...to me, that spells success. I would recommend this camera shop to anyone! more

Not so great 3/29/2011

Staff was alright, not overly friendly or eager to help. When asking about some developers, I specifically asked if they were all fresh, as some liquid chemistry has a short shelf life. I was told that everything was indeed fresh and would be just fine. My fault for not knowing what to use. I'm usually a D-76 or HC-110 kinda guy, and wanted something different to play around with. Since I wasn't sure exactly what would suit my style, I asked for their advice. I guess they saw it as an opportunity to offload some old stock. After searching online for a data sheet, I found out that one of the two developers I purchased had been discontinued over 4 years ago. I also placed an order for some films that weren't currently in stock, and was told it would be a week or two before they arrived. No problem, I wasn't in a huge hurry. A few weeks went by, and I realized I had forgotten about my pre-purcased film order. Stopped in to check on things, and I was non-chalantly told that they hadn't placed the order yet. What? It's been longer than it should have taken for it to get here in the first place. At this point I was pretty frustrated, but somehow managed to put it out of my mind for a few more weeks. When I finally did get to pick up my film, I was a little peeved. It was hot, despite the do not exceed 55'F label. Won't be going back. I would have loved to support this local place, but It's little more than a store for photo 101 students to buy tri-x more

Was Highly Impressed 12/9/2010

They were able to identify the kind of bulb I needed for a very old 8mm projector. They had a new one in stock. I was floored. We will now be able to watch old 8 mm films on Christmas of all my brothers and sisters playing around as kids. I can not wait till Christmas. This is the place to go when you need a real smart Pro. I highly recommend La Grange Camera more

HORRIBLE Experience!!!! 5/28/2010

I never EVER thought I would be leaving the store in such humiliated anger! I came in with a box of misc. old equipment to see what if anything they would be interested in. I made it very clear to the gentlemen helping me that I was going to be using what I got for the items towards purchasing a new lens. He told me that you might only be interested in the camera lens because the bulk in the box was too out of date. We joked about the one SONY digital camera I was going to give to my son. As I was waiting a couple came in who were looking to make a purchase. I over heard them talking about “this was only $5,000” . I guess their purchase was more important because the owner came over to me with impatience and immediately had a defensive attitude with me. She started in on the disposed of items, and when I tried to talk, she talked right over me. She made it clear that she wasn’t a SONY dealer. They weren’t SONY but Minolta. Had she taken one second to look further she would see. Which I did wait patiently for your attention give me yours too.) As I bought the camera body and lenses new from this NEW. Therefore, you do or have sold them. I asked about the lens again and she rudely reminded me about how she was not a dealer. Never once did she look at anything but the one SONY camera we had already established they would not be interested in before she came over. At this point, I was so angry that I was being talked to and treated this way I stated that I would be going elsewhere to purchase my lens. At this, she got really nasty. Saying I was being rude. Never did I get a word in and never did I raise my voice. The only thing I said that she even listened to was that I would be taking my business elsewhere. But it comes down to this, I guess my purchase was not as important as the couple waiting to speak to the owner. As I have bought almost everything I own at your store. Never again. I will take my business elsewhere and tell all I know to do the same. more

One of the best Camera shops around 1/9/2010

I have dealt with Ray a long time now. To the person who said he is rude, That is only when you think you can con him into a deal. He is very fair if your straight with him. I been dealing with Ray since he had his store in Lyons "Rays Camera Emporium". more

Nice full service shop 12/29/2009

Very wide selection of camera gear including used cameras and lenses. They often have newly released (and hard to get) pro gear in stock and the owner and staff are serious photographers. Fair pricing for a retail brick&mortar and you can actually try something right there before buying it. Recommended! more

Beware - Can Be Very Rude 10/5/2009

The young man who works there is excellent and nice to deal with, but if you happen to get the owner, you might want to reconsider being there at all. He knows his stuff well, but he can also be very rude. The sad part is other camera shops in the Western suburbs know him well as a problem towards customers and you don't even have to mention his name for them to know who you're talking about. Pretty sad. more

Great "brick & mortar" camera shop 12/8/2008

When I visit Chicago and have time, I make it a point to take the train out to Lagrange to this camera shop. It's a family owned business and they often have some good used lenses at decent prices. The owner also caters to some local pros and well-heeled amateurs so has pro level lenses and bodies in stock. The knowledge level here is worlds better than the big box stores I've been to and they're priced the same and sometimes a bit lower here. It's worth a stop here when shopping for gear! more

Not a great experience... 2/28/2008

I went there recently to get a small thing on my camera fixed. All it needed was an adjustment inside the camera so I could close the flap on the bottom to keep the batteries in place. Simple, but not according to the lady who waited on me. She acted as if I was bothering her, even though I was the only one in the store. It's funny a small place that supposedly prides itself on customer service. Next time I'll just go to Best Buy. more

Great Camera Store 7/12/2005

This is a great local camera store. They always have a great stock, and great selection, including used equipment. They have a large variety of products, including professional film, and their prices are decent. The service is fantastic; the staff is very knowledgeable and can answer any of your questions. They are also very friendly. This is my family's favorite place to shop for photo equipment and film. more
