El Chicanos is one of the only mexican food restaurants in town.
It is a great place to take the whole family with the casual atmosphere and simple menu items like quesadillas that even the pickiest eater will eat.
I'm not a big fan of their chips and salsa---we've had stale chips before and the salsa doesn't have much taste.
A few of their entrees are really good, though. The License Plate burrito will last you 3 meals it's so big and it is very good.
Their chicken fajitas are excellent--just ask for extra pico sauce to make up for the lack of salsa.
They are great for placing carry-out orders, too.

Henry's is a landmark of Kodiak. It offers a great environment, a large choice of beer and mixed drinks, and some of the best food on the Island. They have a large center bar with seating available around the outside. Henry's offers everything from seafood, to steaks, to unbelievable appetizers. They also offer pulltabs, and great music. Henry's is located on The Mall in the downtown area, which gives great access to shopping

Cost Savers is the best place to buy items in bulk. It is associated with Costco but locally owned.
Food bought in bulk here often even beats Safeway's sale prices.
They get in items for your home (dishes, small appliances, office furniture) but it is sporadic so it's best to shop often to see what is in stock.
Big Al's pizza restaurant in the back of the store has the best deal going in town for lunches. Half (but it is so huge I'd call it a whole!) hoagie sandwich LOADED with meat, cheese, and veggies with a side salad (again, HUGE salad with meat and all kind of veggies) for $5.75 or so. It's the best kept secret in town!

As far as a McDonald's goes... the food is fine. Except they are continually out of Buffalo Sause for the McNuggets. Also, one time I ordered a chocolate dipped cone- meaning vanilla ice cream dipped into chocolate, they misunderstood and gave me chocolate ice cream, which I HATE... so, I proitely said that I meant for the ice cream to be vanilla. The worker wasn't going to remake it!! CRAPPY SERVICE! I've been a server and when I customer isn't happy, you make them happy. Not this McDonald's, they are all about the bottom line. The two employees in the store actually started arguing about whether or not to make a new ice cream cone for me, rediculous!

They sell traditional Alaskan gifts such as Ulu knives, canned salmon, Salmonberry jam, and of course the required T-shirts and fleece jackets.
During Christmas season Norman's has the best selection of ornaments and accessories in town to make your tree and home just right for the season.

I cannot say enough good about the Powerhouse!!! Thomas-san (the chef) is great. The only thing about the restaurant is... do not go if you are starving. The food is amazing, but Thomas-san being by himself, sometimes he gets backed up and it takes a little while. The food is well worth the wait. His fish is soooo fresh. I'd HIGHLY recommend the Spicy tuna roll or the Dynamite Tuna Roll. Both are amazing!!! You will not be dissapointed!

Totally cheap store!!! Most Pizza Hut's let you use a coupon even if expired... this one even if getting delivery- they make sure that they get their coupon so you can't use it again. They also abide STRICTLY to what it says on the coupon. I've never been treated that way by a Pizza Hut. Also... $40 for a large pizza and a 10 piece hot wings is rediculous.
