Kirkland's Houghton beach is the top spot for teens wanting to get some sand and sun. The beach is staffed by lifeguards through August. Although not hot, the water is warm enough for those who brave it. A long pier provides a place for jumping into the water. There is a dock to swim to and hang out on. There is a large area of sand for volleyball and grass for spreading out a towel and chatting with friends. It is not a friendly place for those with toddlers and young children because of the high number of teens- it's just to hard to keep them out of their way and control the content of what they hear/see. Parking is somewhat difficult on hot days- park along Lake Washington Blvd.
