This is a typical run-of-the-mill Safeway that's a bit on the smaller side. There isn't always a huge selection, but it's typically got most of what I need day to day. The plus is that it's open 24 hours and the folks working there are generally very polite.

Trader Joe's in Kirkland is located in Upper Totem Lake Mall and has good prices for unique groceries. The staff are all helpful and friendly in their cute Hawaiian shirts. If you are looking for something different for dinner you will find it here. We love to get desserts from the frozen food area. And if you don't like something, you can take it back for a refund.

Larry's has everything you could possibly ask for in a supermarket. It has bulk foods as well as a whole health food section. The fresh foods in the deli is also a plus. The store is huge, and more organic friendly then most stores I have shopped at, yet it is not too 'out there' that they do not carry your every day regular brands. They carry Veet, which may not mean anything to most readers, but it keeps me coming back :) I associate Larry's with 'Fresh' more than any other place Ive shopped, but it is a bit expensive.

More
Open 24 hours with a great meat department, this local store has all of the amenities of a larger supermarket chain with the convenience of being very close both neighborhood and apartment-style housing.
Recently, it has added a pharmacy, though this is housed in a temporary building in the parking lot.
The customer service I have received at all hours has been very helpful and friendly, unlike some of the less experienced staffs in the area
The quality of the food is good, and the prices are somewhat better. The prices are more expensive than Safeway, and lesser quality than Larry's close by, but like I said, the service and convenience make it all the worthwhile. Price wise, they are getting more competitive with their coupon card offerings.
Overall, as long as you're not looking for a particularly obscure food item, you will find some quality food for decent prices, with good service at this Supermarket.

Pros: Newly remodeled Safeway. Beside an experienced Great Clips and Liquor store. Good Deli, Bakery and China Express, Organic Foods store.
Cons: stockers aren't that experienced and sometimes can appear a little lost. 9am - 1 am is just silly for a Safeway.
Overview: Nearby Woodinville, Bothell and Kirkland, this Juanita Safeway does have quite a few things that are next to it. Other than the things mentioned above it is near a 7-11, Dairy Queen, Blockbusters, McDonald's (with play area... though it's awfully cold in the winter).
Inside, the Starbucks closes way too early at about 7 or 8 pm but the staff are about average in speed. Pastries offered primarily come from the in-store bakery as the ones offered from the main office tend to be a little... stale.
Carts are stored outside in a covered area, so those with children who are sensitive to such things, will probably appreciate a coat placed under them once they are in the store.
Overall? This Safeway seems to be like many newly remodeled ones in the area, nice amenities, with a staff that still needs seasoning. Only the hours and staff are drawbacks.

The Bridle Trails Red Apple is the epitome of a neighborhood grocery store. The clerks know many of the customers by name, and most of the clientèle is from the immediate vicinity.
While the service is definitely top-notch, the prices are pretty high, which makes this my run-in-and-grab-some-milk store and not my weekly shopping store.
I'm not sure of the store's inventory practices, but I've also gotten some bad meat and cheese here before. Of course, they took it right back and did refunds and exchanges for me. Again, excellent customer service, but another reason I don't buy all my groceries here.

Houghton Market is located on NE 68th in (you guessed it) the Houghton Neighborhood of Kirkland.
Inside you'll find your standard grocery store fare; however, the deli here is above average. They have everything from sandwiches to pizza, and I've never had anything from them that wasn't good.
The wine selection at Houghton is very good as well, and most wine enthusiasts will find something here to interest them.
Produce is usually good, and the meat selection is good as well. Check-outs are usually very well staffed, the clerks are friendly and fast.
While I've never done my "major" weekly grocery shopping here, Houghton Market is a good place to stop in for lunch or to grab a little something...

I have no idea why the store management would let Rob M. work the 15 items or less line during the busiest time of the day. This individual really needs to work on his people-to-people skills. I understand that the weather conditions outside are not the best, but that does not give him a reason to be rude and nasty to the people that are the reason for his paycheck. I doubt that I will go back to this particular store. If I do I will make certain that I go to a different line. One he is not the cashier of.
