The relatively small gallery space here manages to host some consistently interesting shows. I like the wide-ranging focus, which can be photographs, paintings, or three dimensional media of various types. They seem to try hard not to fall into one narrow, comfortable zone of exhibitions, so their displays can surprise, though shock value is not what they are after, either.
The list of classes offered for elementary students through adults is impressive in its breadth, also. The excitement of the classes, and of the students, seems to reach over and inform the gallery, in turn. I always feel a sense of anticipatory excitement, here.
PROS: Free, professional and non-profit gallery

For continuing education and arts activities for both adults and children alike, check out the Kirkland Arts Center. KAC offers regular workshops as well as classes each term on ceramics, painting, drawing, jewelry-making, sculpture, papermaking, you name it. On Sundays they offer open studio figure drawing. I've taken classes there throughout the years here and all the instructors have been very supportive and positive. If anything, they could provide a little more feedback and critique.
