I moved to Kirkland and needed a new, convenient Chiropractor because I was going all the time and couldn't keep driving to Bellevue for my previous guy. The Massage Therapist I'd been seeing recommended Dr. Karen Shepard at Northwest Chiropractic. Right away, she began weaning me off of the too-frequent visits and over-adjustment done by my previous chiropractors. From the beginning, she urged me to see if I could wait just a little while longer between each visit. She explained my tissues were stretched and weakened from over adjustment - which was why my neck & back kept chronically going "out." Within a few months, with her strengthening exercises and moral support, PLUS the dietary changes recommended for lowering systemic inflammation by my awesome naturopath (Dr. Sheila Dunn-Merritt in Bellevue), I now only go about 2-3 times per year! (Unless something unusual comes up - like having to sit a long time in really un-supportive chairs at a conference...).
Dr. Shepard is caring, supportive, a great listener, and has really changed my life with her gentle, responsible, wellness oriented care. When she hasn't been available, I've also seen Dr. Tim Clanton, and he's AMAZING, too!
You will be SO glad you found this clinic - they want you to get BETTER and tell all your friends, instead of keeping you dependent on chronic care! They DON'T want to suck you into an endless, money-draining, physically dis-empowering spiral of increasing visits and costs - like most of the other chiropractors I saw before finding Dr. Shepard.
If you want to get BETTER, go see Dr. Shepard.

I had been suffering a lower back pain for 1 1/2 years doctors tried many things including physical therapy nothing was working. Finally I was referred to Northwest Chiropractic Center and began to see Karen. I had never been to a chiropractor before and boy was I surprised. Karen was so helpful and informative and seemed to know exactly what was wrong and how to fix me. She said it wouldn't take very many visits and she was right. After 2 visits I was feeling so much better after 4 visit I was having pain free days for the first time in almost 2 years. I am very thankful for Karen, she is very present at every visit and has made a huge difference in my life. Thank you Karen and Northwest Chiropractic Center

When I first saw Dr. Clanton, this seemingly very young doctor compared to my much older Chiropractors in Atlanta, I was skeptical. Well. I was in for a pleasant surprise. He was upbeat on ongoing basis, trusted every word that I told him, did his research, kept working until we both were fully satisfied, and had me improving in no time. I needed gentle touch and he did just the right things. He increased the pressure only as my body got better. After a car accident he was once again as gentle as one can be. He performs only the key adjustments that he considers necessary and allows my body to do the healing - it has worked very well for me.
For a short period I tried another doctor close to my residence and when I changed back to Dr Clanton and told him about it, he was genuinely delighted about the other doc, saying 'at least somebody was taking care of you'. I had never met a doctor of any kind who cares to this extent, or who listens to the clues his patient gives him, such as 'this one still does not seem to be quite there yet'... He says, 'well, you know your body better than anyone. why would I not listen.' I wonder why more doctors are not like not him...
Lastly, he truly wants to see me feeling better. He has no 'motive' of getting me back in the office if I dont need to. That, in itself is very reassuring.

She has been a life saver for me! I started seeing her about 8 years ago for headache. I have several other health issues since then and she is always so kind and compassionate and she DOES remember you when you haven't seen her in months. Once when my MD was out and I saw her colleague, he just devastated me with his bad beside manner. I left the office in tears and thought "Who can help me?" My first thought was Dr. Shepard. I went to her office with no appointment and she saw me and listened to me and made phone calls on my behalf to a couple doctors. Then she called me to make sure it all worked out.

I began seeing Karen out of desperation, really. I had heard terrible things about chiropractors (they don't really fix the problem, once you go you're stuck for years, etc)...I finally saw her after a ton of begging by my father and chronic headaches which were so bad I was completely incapacitated by them. After seeing a specialist (who essentially told me to "deal with it, it will never get better") I broke down and made an appointment. I was in the same day and left without a horrible headache for the first time in YEARS. I've been going back ever since. I've never had to wait, Karen always remembers what's going on in my life and with my family, she squeezed me in on my wedding day (!) with no notice and most importantly, she genuinely cares. I would recommend her to anyone, any time. And when she says "It's going to be six visits to fix this" I'm usually done in 4. She's great!

I've had back problems since , well, back-to-back car accidents, and my GP recommended NW Chiropractic for me. I absolutely recommend them, and specifically Dr. Karen Shepherd, for people with back problems. Dr. Shepherd is genuinely kind and compassionate-she remembers me between the 3 months or longer that pass between visits, can recall what remodeling project I'm working on, or what my husband is up to. I am always seen on time, and have never had a problem with billing, plus my back feels a thousand times better after an adjustment--this isn't a place you go and have to keep going back to--they are genuinely interested in making you feel and get better.
