They make a mean Pina Colada here. Tasty drinks and really cool bartenders. I usually go to the beach for a couple hours which happens to be about 20 footsteps away, swim and work up an appetite and then go to the bar for the happy hour sushi and drinks.
All of the sushi on the happy hour menu is half off so I try to get as much as I can. They have a an amazing dinner menu and a really nice romantic dining area outside.

Great breakfast - did have a long wait. Had outdoor seating and indoor but still very crowded. Service was acceptable - because it was so busy. Reasonable priced - that's why it was busy. Not only tourist visited but also local folks.

I saw a commercial on the Maui visitor's channel while I was on my honeymoon, and this store promised to be the end-all-be-all of Hawaiian souvenir shopping. My husband and I had a list, so I talked him into driving up to this place the Monday of our trip, so we could get our souvenirs out of the way.
Let me point out first that in most instances, it doesn't really matter where you buy things in Maui, they are all overpriced. Yes, a WalMart there does sell a lot of the touristy things cheaper, but I found certain stores to have better quality, this being an instance.
Everytime you walk into a Hilo Hattie, you are greeted at the door with an "Aloha" and given a seashell necklace-lei. The store lays out like a Target or other upscale-fashion boutique. There are TONS of Hawaiian shirts, sarongs, leis, scuba equipment, toys, mugs, paintings, postcards, candies (and for the record, Hawaiian chocolate ONLY COMES WITH MACADAMIA nuts... if you have an allergy, you are outta luck), coffees, trivets... you get the idea. Lots of knick-knacks and more.
Combined with several widely-available coupons, you can get a lot here and get freebies too. On our two trips, we got 5 free mugs, 4 necklaces, a photo-card set, and I think a keychain, free. Which helped out in the souvenir-giving department.
The staff is very friendly, and not pushy. Checkout is quick, very secure (they check ID for every transaction), and the selection is good with lots of good quality merchandise. You will pay a bit more here for certain things than say, the local "ABC Store", but it is a bit nicer of an environment, and you get some nice free things, too (if you spend enough).

More
During our honeymoon in Maui, my husband and I stayed in a one-bedroom condo at the Sugar Beach Resort. This particular condo was a timeshare that my father's wife's family owned, and therefore, he was able to reserve the room for us for the entire week at a reduced rate. I cannot, therefore, really comment upon the pricing, as it was a gift.
The room card, however, did indicate the rooms rented for $150-200/week. Given the fact that a regular hotel room, sans kitchenette, would probably be an arm and a leg, I would tend to think this is a good deal.
We had a room on the first floor. Each entry is located on the exterior of the building, in a two-entry alcove. The central area between the two buildings housed a nice pool, probably 1/3 of Olympic size. A small kiddie pool and a nice outdoor jacuzzi were available. Tennis courts are on the property too, however, I don't think we ever did successfully locate them. The buildings, along with other condos, all are just steps from a private beach that stretches a goodly way along the coast. It is not a huge beach, but is wide enough to lay out, or to run and swim in the ocean.
Most importantly, the pool, jacuzzi, sauna, beaches and grounds were all clean and well-maintained. While we were there, we did see grounds crews almost every other day; trimming the lush vegetation or otherwise cleaning the walkways.
The rooms? Well, the one-bedroom model we had was great. The king-sized bed was comfortable and clean, and the bamboo furniture was tasteful. Two large closets provided ample storage, and an in-room safe provides extra security for your more sensitive items (a sign, "There are thieves in paradise", helps reinforce the reality of crime in paradise).
The bathroom was functional. I mean, it's not a life or death decision when making a hotel room decision, but I did find that the shower did not have a slope to the floor at all, so water just stayed on the tile. Sand also kind of stuck, since there was no gradient to encourage it to wash down the drain. The dryer vented through the bathroom fan, so if you happened to shower while doing laundry, you would end up smelling like laundry exhaust.
The kitchen was great, and since the condos are a timeshare, it was stocked with most of the essentials for cooking. Plates, utensils, pots and pans, heck, even a collander, were all available. Some basic spices, too. A fridge, dishwasher, and full-size oven also were part of the kitchen package. Food was not included, however, we did take advantage of the local grocery store to stock up and not eat out everynight.
The living room was great, and included a plasma TV. Cable is part of the package, and a cable modem hookup is available for internet service... as long as you provide a credit card.
Room service is available, similar to a hotel, only it is not automatic. The maid will knock on your door and ask if you want it for that or the next day. It just includes making the bed, stocking the basics of paper necessities, and leaving behind laundry soap. Towels, if dirty, will be thrown in the washer and started for laundry (you have to finish it).
Oh yea, there is a washer/dryer combo for you to use. The condo association will provide the first box of a specific brand of laundry detergent, and you can buy additional at the on-site convenience store.
Aside from the ant problems, as well as midge flies, we had a great stay. The rooms had AC, and a short walk out the patio took you to the beach or the pool. The units were clean and very comfortable.
If you want to have a small apartment while you are away, this is the way to go. If you want all of the amenities of a hotel, it would be better to actually go to one. The condo rental is designed more for the more independent traveller. You must bring your own shampoo, etc. They help you by tidying up and the like, but else they leave you alone.
If you have kids, it may be a wise choice simply because there is a washing machine. Lord knows it was wonderful being able to do laundry while we were there; we were able to pack a lot less to take.
Overall, I recommend this place to stay while in Maui. With on-site general services and tour agents, you have pretty much everything you need. The condo units are quiet, and beautiful in paradise. It is worth the money.

This gated community in the Wailea area of Kihei is beachfront and is priced accordingly. One, two, and three bedroom condominium units are spacious and tastefully furnished and comfortable. There are actually two swimming pools, a barbeque area, and the grounds are beautifully landscaed. A one bedroom unit can rent for $225 to $425 a night, depending on the season.

The hotel rooms, approximtely 200 sf, can be found for around $100. The one bedroom units, apx. 600 sf, go for around $180. People who are disappointed with this property seem to expect the one bedroom unit at the $100 rate, and they are disappointed with the room size. If you do not spend much time in your room, the hotel room can be a great deal. This property has a great location, with some of Hawaii's best swimming and snorkeling truly only feet away. This is NOT a luxury resort, but the feel of the property and the service you receive are appropriate for the price you pay. They also have a great restaurant, the Five Palms.

Just when you think Maui is only sand, surf, sunsets and cocktails (not that there's anything wrong with that), I found the Shops at Wailea. A gorgeous open air mall, with high end stores (think 5th Ave in NY and Rodeo drive in LA), with some great restaurants and the best view ever. A great place for souvenirs, and to give your skin a break from the sun.

I walked past Crazy Shirts a few times before I thought to stop because I did not really like anything I saw in their window. They have a lot of tee shirts with sayings on them and while they are good quality I do not like the styles. I did however find a terry cloth hat at this store that I wore every day of my honeymoon and I still wear during the summer. I love that hat.

On a recent scuba trip we selected prodiver out of Kihei, Maui and it was a great choice. The pros: just a 15 minute boat ride to Molokini, a 6 person boat, a dive master that's knowledgeble but forgiving for divers that may scuba infrequently or need some handholding, they refer to themselves as a "valet dive boat" meaning they check and secure all your equipment making for a relaxing experience, and they are flexible with their itinerary based on the boats' interests and skill levels. All in all, I highly recommend this dive company for a great scuba day trip.
