Canyon Café has a lot going for it. It's located in KC's Plaza, a hot spot for hipsters, families, and tourists. They've got some cool southwestern theming, including torches at the exterior entrance and dimmed lighting inside. The food is fantastic and a pleasant variation on Tex-Mex standards. Unfortunately, service has ranged from "eh" to "and we're paying THEM here?" I don't want to knock all servers, as I'm sure there are some good ones out there. However, we waited forever for a table when the place was completely empty. Something just doesn't add up here... (and it's not like there weren't servers; I had to interrupt one having a gossip session with the bartender in order to get seated). Enjoy at your own risk.

This restaurant and bar is a real mixed bag. Food-wise, everything here is just fantastic. We learned to fall in love with southwestern egg rolls by trying them here first. My wife has ordered fish, and I've had plenty of meat dishes to say that they provide an excellent range of menu items. However, this restaurant falls short in the service department. One time when we came for dinner, we waited for a long time to be seated, while several employees walked past us and the bartender saw us standing alone. Not sure if they were short-handed or just ignorant, but that doesn't bode well of their customer service policies. If they're crowded, you'll probably end up with better service.

Friday nights after work are the place to be at this bar. The food is not as good as it used to be but it is still a nice place with great location and plenty of other nearby things to do that make this a fair place to go. Drinks are good and the upstairs bar is a neat location. The food is a mix of choices that should be able to make anyone happy if they are not overly picky. The wait staff can be hard to find from time to time so do not plan on this being a quick meal.
