I love Zon's. It's the best eatery in JP in my view. It's got great food, the Lamb Burger is great.. The Mac and Cheese is wonderful and the atmosphere is extremely cozy and inviting. It can get a little crowded on weekends, so get there sooner than later. But when I'm looking for comfort food, it's top notch, though, it can get pricey when you consider drinks. Overall, I highly recommend it and it's great to have in JP.
Pros: Great atmophere. Pleasant wait staff.
Cons: Sometimes crowded and can get pricey for burgers and comfort food.

Wonder Spice Café is one of the only Thai restaurants that I will eat at! I have a general distrust of Thai, as the fish sauce makes me ill. But Wonder Spice is truly vegetarian friendly, and the food is great. It’s a mix of Vietnamese, Cambodian, Thai and more, and there is something to please nearly everyone on the menu.
The service is great and the restaurant is clean and nicely decorated. They do takeout, so when it is too crowded you can always get take away. The food is delicious and nicely presented.

Wide range of choices. Like its "create your own entree" option, very personal & cute, and flexible. The portion is large for the price,and they have good music if you don't come close to closing time. I tried "vegeatable curry + rice noodles" and the first tiem for the soup, very impressive.

I have recently had the misfortune of having some horrible car problems. Patrick and his crew at West Cork Auto were recommended by friends, so we took the car there. This is, in my opinion, the best mechanic in Jamaica Plain. They are very honest, very upfront about costs and what needs to be done with your car, and have great Irish accents to boot! I have complete trust in them, and will be using them exclusively from now on.

Video Underground is a great little shop in the Hyde Square area of Jamaica Plain. While it is a rather small store, they have a really impressive array of video and dvds to rent. The focus is on indy and foreign films, although they do occasionally get new releases.
The staff is amazing; they really know their stuff. I have never gone wrong with a staff recommendation. They are very knowledgeable about movie, and if they don’t have the answer you need, a collection of books on movies should be able to help you.
They have a frequent renters card, as well as specials (rent 1, get 1 free). Their rental prices are good, and the best part is they have access to movies that are REALLY hard to find sometimes. It’s just a fantastic place to get your movie rentals.

Just had a disappointingly racial experience there. My wife and I, who are both African American, came in without a reservation. We were told to do so by the male Vee (half of the co-owning couple who's last name ends in V) on the phone when I called to make a reservation, but was told none were available for the time I wanted. When we got there, at the time we requested, we were greeted by the waitress who asked if we had a reservation, we said no, to which the hovering female Vee responded to the waitress, "Just put them there", without any greeting. Our meal came and our food was great, but we then watched the female Vee greet every customer and male Vee check in at each table and make small talk with everyone BUT us. The place is so small that you have to make an effort not to talk, which the Vees did. We are both educated professionals who were dressed appropriately and were completely reserved in demeanor whereas other patrons in high top Converse sneakers were smiling and chatting it up with Mr. Vee. We definitely don't need the Vees chit chat or approval, but we didn't need them to be so obvious with their biases. I'm sure its a great restaurant if you're white. How sad.
