I went to Boomerangs with my cousin last weekend and had a ball browsing their selection of - well - everything. They have new (yes, new) clothing, jewelry, clothes for just about everyone (even your dog), shoes. You name it, they just may have it somewhere. My cousin is a costume designer for theater, and we found a fantastic vintage jacket that will be perfect for his nex production. I was tempted by some gorgeous engraved silver platters. Boomerang is a great place to browse or shop. You may not find what you're looking for, but you will find something!

The used book section at Boomerangs rivals Harvard Bookstore's across the river - it's just as smart, eclectic, and broad. The place doesn't look like much (except for the awesome window displays) but there are some funky and higher end gems among the clothes if you are methodical. Sometimes they also get odd lots of new stuff which is fun to poke through. Go back periodically as a couple of no-win trips can suddenly give way to a bonanza.

This thrift store is great primarily for books. Check out the selection in the back. Many call JP the poor man's Cambridge -- and the books in the back are indeed surprisingly good. Paperbacks are quite cheap -- less than a buck, and hardbacks are quite reasonable. Blanket pricing for all books makes it easy to calculate.
There's also clothes, but they look pretty ratty to me. Might be good if that's your thing.
They used to have free condoms in bins up front -- haven't seen them lately.
Bizarre household items, poor cd selection, way overpriced ancient electronics, overpriced beat-up furniture, for the most part.
Very diverse crowd. Great for people watching.
Definitely worth a stop.

Boomerangs is an interesting twist on a thrift store concept. Located in JP Centre, Boomerangs is home to the castoff items of a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood as well as stock of items that didn't sell from select Metro Boston businesses.
If you live nearby you'll want to "pop-in" to Boomerangs as you pass by just to check out what is in stock at the moment. You'll find an extraordinarily eclectic collection of CD's, kitchenwares that range from dishes and glasses to crystal and appliances, a huge assortment of used clothes and lots and lots of books. Plus, you can even find furniture, though the furniture typically is quite used... you'll find some rare finds on good pieces on the rare occaision as I have.
All in all the staff is very helpful and frequent visits will result in great finds and astounding bargains. My most recent visit last week resulted in discovering margarita glasses from Pottery Barn that someone obviously had never used and decided to dispose of... at 75 cents a stem!

We all have dead weight in our closets and look to find something to do with it. Boomerangs is that something. It appears to be your run of the mill secondhand shop. However, it really is something special. The money made goes to AIDS Action, so your castoffs are helping people. You can really feel good about donating things here.

Boomerangs is a fantastic charity shop located in the center of hipness in Jamaica Plain. Their sales benefit the AIDS Action committee and they have a fantastic selection of clothing and other things to choose from.
I go mainly for the clothing, but I have friends who shop there for furniture almost exclusively. They get fantastic stuff in! Recently, before a wedding, I managed to score an Ann Taylor dress, with the original tags still on it. It was originally $79 dollars....at Boomerangs it was $8!
The staff is very friendly, the clothing is well stocked, well marked and sorted and wonderfully priced. The stock changes quickly, so it's best to visit often.
There is another location of Boomerangs in Brighton which has many toys and books for children. Boomerangs also has an auction site occasionally, where you can bid on great items. All in all this is one of my favorite stores on Centre Street, and I always walk out with something great.
