If you live along the 7 Train as I do, and if you are forgetful, as I am, then last moment shopping is always enjoyable and satisfying at this very elegant shop along historic Jackson Heights 37th Avenue.
Birthday, anniversary, attraction, holiday, dinner; whatever the occasion your're invited, right? And you forgot to get the appropriate gift? Then run right over to 79th Street, one block from Roosevelt, and shop at this special gift store. They stock over 5,000 items.
For women you will find cotton wrap skirts, stretch sweaters, Mexican silver jewelry, sandles, stoles, sweaters and embroidered blouses. Sales people are never pushy and always helpful with ideas. Gift wrapping is special, fast and free.
Gear for guys too: indigenous shirts, three-quarter, full length or beach pants, leather necklaces and bracelets, cotton hooded jackets and heavy wool coats, all reasonably priced.
If you are invited for dinner and are tired of bringing a bottle of wine, you will find over 50 different selections at Rudy Volcano that will please your host and hostess and at a price less than wine: Talavera bowls, ceramic crosses, painted goards, miniatures, incense, scented candles, decals, teeshirts, water fountains and dreamcatchers.
Big time gifts include exotic blankets from the highlands of Guatemala, pillow cases in natural cotton colors, rungs, small furniture, statues, mirrors and lots of Guatamalan hand-woven fabric for walls, tables, sofas.
The discerning can travel all the way to SoHo, but when you are late or last moment, be glad that Rudy Volcano is right there in Jackson Heights along the No. 7 train with lots of "special" gift ideas.

Two of my good Indian friends brought me here to buy a sari for a wedding. I quickly got distracted by the lovely necklace and earring sets. Sari's range from $15 utilitarian swaths of china silk to beautiful custom embroidered outfits by the local tailor.
There are a ton of sari shops in this neighborhood, but this one is pretty thorough and big. Good prices too.
If you are not from the neighborhood, come on out to Queens, visit the Jackson Diner, and buy your saris here....
