If I could give this place zero stars, I totally would. We had a party of 7 and they decided to charge us 30% gratuity. Are you effin' kidding me? I'm happy to pay 15-18% (the server, Nina, was very nice and sweet) but 30% is a little presumptutious no? When we pointed out the unethical addition to our bill to the girl at the front desk, "Machele", she got very rude and said, "well it's not my business." Little girl, if you work there and you want to keep customers happy and coming back, you better make it your damn business. Some other guy (Shawn?) came over and tried to tell me that this was for a room charge. I informed him that no one had told us there was a $25 room charge AND we did not even request a room! He then started yelling and saying, "Is this illegal?" WTF? To be honest, I would have just let the matter go before this point in the conversation but because of their poor attitudes, I had to raise my voice and get my point across. I pointed out that they could take their measly $25 now and lose repeat customers, or they could adjust the difference and not lose business. At the end, they did credit back our card the difference but because of the crappy customer service (or lack thereof) the damage is already done. I posted a truthful account of what happened on another review website. Today, I received a private message from that same hostess who proceeded to cuss me out and also said that no one at Tomikawa welcomes (and I quote) "f*cking stingy Chinese f*ckers!" The low level of professionalism at this establishment continues to astound me. Now they have resorted to thuggish behavior! Pros: NOTHING Cons: Rude unprofessional thuggish hostess

My husband comes here for lunch at least once a week and can't say enough good things about this place. He likes to get the 2-3 item combos. Spicy tuna rolls, spicy chicken, Teriyaki salmon will not disappoint. With every lunch entree soup, salad and rice are included. The prices are ridiculously reasonable.

Manager was VERY RUDE. Be careful if you're using a coupon! He didn't honor the coupon on the bill and tried to convince us he did. He argued with us while standing at the cash register and punched in random numbers on his calculator. When he finally realized his mistake, he didn't apologize and just shoved us the bill. He made no eye contact and ignored us when we gave him money for the meal. The waiters/waitresses were nice but the manager was unbelievably rude and makes the restaurant not worth going to. Would give 0 stars if I had the option.

***DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO CONSTANTLY FLAG DOWN AND BEG BEGGING YOUR SERVER FOR SOMETHING YOU DONT HAVE BUT WANT. way too many things went wrong when my friend and i ate at this place. 1. we sat at the bar, my order was taken by the sushi chef, but my friend wanted to order a chicken and rice dish. we waited about 15 minutes for the server to come, we finally had to ask the sushi chef to call the server. The chef yelled at the server, i think he was enforcing a reminder to serve all guests including ones at the bar. 2. I tried getting the attention of the server for soy sauce, no luck after 10 min. i finally got up and reached for one at a table next to me. the chef again yelled at the server, reminding him to pay attention. 3. I didnt have a napkin when my food arrived. I tried flagging the server down, no luck, i got up again to get a napkin. 4. we reminded to server to bring out my friend 's miso soup 3 times. 5. my food arrived 35 min before my friends food arrived. 6, now servers and chefs are yelling at each other about irresponsibility to our service. a different server is yelling at our server denying that we her asked for miso, when we did. 7. we finally got my friends miso and food after three other tables came in after us and left before us. ouch. 8. ON TOP OF ALL THIS our server refused to take a "buy one entree, get the 2nd half off" coupon. apparently, even though we had two full meals, it couldnt be accepted because we didnt order from a combo menu. we bought beers and dessert and spent about $40 and the worst server in the world couldnt compliment us $5. ***DO NOT EAT HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO CONSTANTLY FLAG DOWN AND BEG YOUR SERVER FOR SOMETHING YOU DONT HAVE BUT WANT. We sat down at 5:55pm, the hostess said they would honor the coupon. We waited 5 minutes for a server. Now we are over the 6:00pm deadline. So guess what, they denied it. Good thing I had him check with the manager. So we got up and left. Do you yourself a favor and don't waste your time at this restaurant...

I did not try Tomikawa since its opening due to lousy review of its service and food quality from my associates, although it is located within a walking distance from my house in North Irvine. Unfortunately I was lured by a "25% discount coupon and decided to give a try today. What a freaking mistake! I went there with 2 kids around 4:30 in the afternoon because I had an evening appoinment. Starting was good that a waitress informed there were having "Summer Special Happy Hour." Hmm I thought I could save couple bucks and ordered a beer and couple appertizers. Then, the waitress turned right back and said everyone had to order full price drinks for the discounted appertizer. OK me stupid. I ordered the drinks for everyone to get two discounted appertizers that I could not visualize in a Japanese. When those came out, what a disappointment. Portion was 1/3 of a regular appertizer and smelled ready for a trash can. Then I ordered full priced menu items. Those were Nabe udon combo, sashime, sushi and rolls. Nabe came in a luke warm. Sashimi and sushi were almost Sushi Boy quality but triple the price. Rolls were absolutely mushy. I do not think the place knew how to make a roll rice. Anyway, it was my mistake up to the end for enduring such lousy food. However, I really could not tolerate the behavior of the place when I was paying the bill. The bill came out to be $95. Although I did not want to pay even $20 for what I had, I gaved them my card and the discount coupon. Then, the manager rushed in and said no discount since I had a happy hour appertizer. I told him there was no restriction on coupon or happy hour. The answer I got was thar was the house rule. I got so mad that I told the manager to charge regulaer price for happy hour items and discount. He told me there were no equivalent full price and no discount. After arguing for a while I paid $90 and left. How can they be in business? Pros: Easy parking Cons: Bad service, lousy food and deceptive pricing

My wife and I like to have Japanese food about once a week and we decided to try Tomikawa yesterday. In short, I am still upset at the experience that I am taking the time to write this review. The menu is overpriced for the food and the service. The service is the worst I have ever experienced and the young manager is unprofessional and argumentative. I think he is the owner's son, but that should not give him the right to be rude. Sushi was not very fresh and the udon soup was near cold. We witnessed SEVERAL other tables arguing with the waitress about the misplaced order and the establishment (the manager)was arguing back to the customers; it was quite a sight but disruptive to our dinner. Furthermore, the restrooms were filthy. I do not intend on going there again. Pros: Not much here Cons: Unprofessional service, sushi is not fresh, overpriced.

The manager is really extremely rude. He has an attitude and seems like he thinks hes the best. However, the chubby fat man was really rude and the sushi was not as good as people say it is. Last time I ate sushi that was like old. This place is not recommended to anyone especially thoses who hate poor service. If i could give no stars i would give none. Too bad. Pros: Nothing Cons: Rude manager, service is terrible.
