GREAT PLACE

This is an older venue but it is absolutley without a doubt one of the best places to catch a show. Not a bad seat in the house. And after the show... More >

This place sucks. They don't know how to run a business. One minute the box office opens at 10 a.m., then its 12p.m. the internet says its opens at... More >

Editorial Review

by Contributor at Citysearch, March 01, 2004

Come to the land of the Pharaohs for the latest and greatest in popular music.
The Scene
The 2,000-capacity Egyptian Room has played host to bands like Powerman 5000, Gwar, Anthrax, Fear Factory, Insane Clown Posse and other midsize acts. Located in the same building as the larger Murat Theater, the Egyptian Room is a large narrow room reminiscent of a high school gymnasium. Predictably, Ancient Egypt is the theme here, complete with huge columns and archaeological knickknacks. There are no seats to impede the mosh pits. The venue is all-ages but there is a bar for patrons over 21; just get a wristband from one of the security guards. The neighboring Murat Theater has hosted Oasis, Counting Crows, Sarah McLachlan and local boy John Mellencamp.

Adrenaline Factor
Like an Ancient Egyptian prom gone horribly wrong.

Slayer (once a year, every year), Ministry, Pixies, Twizted; these shows and others have all sounded great. Solid bass, no distortion (unless intended), every kick of the bass drum is like a kick... More >

Big House

The Murat is a really nice theater. It looks really nice, and they tend to have the bigger productions that come to town. However, some of the seats leave a little to be desired. I know that when... More >

The previous opinion was of one event at the venue. The promoter designates how a room is set up. Most rock concerts are SRO. The Jazz events held in the Egyptian Room are all caberet seating, quite... More >
