I have been eating at Loon Lake Lodge for 5 years and still thoroughly enjoy their food. Not only does this place offer a unique environment and friendly service but it has great food from quality steaks to great fish to rattlesnake bites. There is something for everyone and it is VERY family friendly while maintaining a romantic lodge feeling. The choices are endless and although a little bit pricier than somewhere like Applebees you will definitely get what you pay for and enjoy what this place has to offer.
Pros: Great food, friendly people, something new

A close friend decided to have her Rehearsal Dinner at Loon Lake and I was a little worried about the lodge feel for a formal dinner, but they proved me wrong. The table cloths were white with white napkins, so right there it looked the Wedding theme. The wedding party put on a slide show of the bride & groom that played throughout the evening, they said the restaurant supplied the projector and screen, which must have been helpful. We had a private bar for the dinner, our bartender was very nice and suggested this great Pinto Grigio, which of course I don't remember the name. Our server took our dinner order from a personalized menu, (the bride's mom kept a copy for their scrapbook) and was helpful explaining the Simply Fish, where you choose the type of fish and how it is prepared. The Grouper was very fresh and the lemon cream sauce complimented it. We ended with the homemade key lime pie, great for the summertime and I think the grooms family took some home too. It was a very pleasant night and I think the restaurant choice has a lot to do with how smooth this special evening was. I heard more compliments about the rehearsal dinner than the receptions family style service.
Pros: Knowledgable service, relaxed or formal atmosphere, awesome menu.
Cons: A lot of decisions, desserts are huge.

We were so excited about going there tonight but our expectations were not met. The food was very disappointing. My husband ordered the King Neptune and his steak was black charbroiled on much of the outside and medium rare in the middle. He likes charred edges, but these were just burnt. For soaking the steaks as they say, it sure lacked flavor. If you like some heat to your steak, you better ask for it.
I had chosen grouper and the waiter suggested pecan encrusted and the first bite tasted heavy on mayonnaise to me. I was going to order almond encrusted but he stated it wasn't as good on grouper. Hmmm, I didn't care for this. Our appetizer was the portabella mushroom stuffed and it was OK. We weren't impressed with it either. It tasted like tuna in it and a bunch of cheese to cover. Seriously we dine out a lot and try new things. This was totally hyped to be fantastic and we felt it barely deserved this 2 rating. Atmosphere was about a 3.5. In the end we would have preferred going to Outback.
Pros: It's fun hearing the bears growl.
Cons: We didn't even ask for the usual doggy bags it was so bad.

We came here for dinner. The decor was somewhat sensationalistic but otherwise very nice and unique. The service was a touch amateurish, but friendly. Of course, the best thing was the food. The mushroom and rattlesnake appetizers were delicious, the pheasant was unique and smoky, and the duck was absolutely wonderful. The side dishes such as mashed potatoes and creamed corn were also excellent. The only side we weren't crazy about was the cole slaw. The restaurant also has a nice selection of beers. I would definitely come back here for special occasions.
Pros: Great food, unique decor
Cons: Service was a touch off

Loon Lake is a unique restaurant that's fun to go to on occasion. They serve all sorts of wild game and different dishes. From rattlesnake to elk, you can satisfy your adventurous side. For the not-so-adventurous (like me) they have steaks, chicken and ribs.
The decor is fun and they have a cool gift shop.

Loon Lake Lodge is a great place to dine with the family! Highly recommended for those who have different tastes in food since they have a large menu with a wide variety of different foods!

My husband and I went here to celebrate Valentine's Day/our wedding anniversary. We made reservations a week ahead of time, which they lost our "fishing liscense"/card when we got there and we had to wait 30-45 mins. until they figured it out. But, the wait was worth it. We sat in the forrest area. The ambiance was wonderful, with the stars above us and the trees. Our waiter (Bill) was so friendly and helpful, he read and suggested items on the menu. The fish and prime rib were to die for. The wine sampler was very reasonably priced. Try the corn fries, they are a unique touch! The raspberry martini was kickin' butt! The praline cheesecake was a wonderful ending to a great meal! I would recomend this to everyone who stops in Indiana.
Pros: Good prices, Great ambiance, Wonderful food

Wonderful food: the Jambalaya, Quinault Salmon and Elk Chops were DELICIOUS!!! Very attentive waitress, but not pushy. She even gave us a tour of the private room! Excellent desserts, especially the Key Lime Pie and the (yum!) bread pudding. Definitely a great time. Loved the theme atmosphere, really sparked conversations about canouing in N. Canada. Highly recommended!
Pros: Food, Proximity to I-69, Atmosphere
Cons: Getting back to I-69
