Located just off Main Street, downtown. Japanese Tapas (small plates) are served here, so you get to try a small amount of many different dishes. Dinner plates are also served. Plates are served with lots of attention to presentation. The atmosphere is upbeat, classy,contemporary and clean. There is a small bar as well as a small sushi bar. Our server was helpful, attentive and gave great suggestions on what drinks and dishes to try. On Tuesday nights, H.B. locals get 20% off!

Totally recommend this place. We let the waitress help us with some of the selections, and she did an outstanding job of selecting things we never would have ordered. Mostly cooked, although some sushi and sashimi dishes. Everything was superb. We also asked her to recommend a sake - and she was right on. We had been there when they first opened, and werent' sure if we'd go back, but I'm sure glad we decided to give it a second try. it's one of my favorite restaurants now. Try the pork pot. It's out of this world. Pricey, but worth it.

Haven't you ever just wanted to say, have the chef make me something? The right choice at Izakaya Zero if you decide to be so bold. Our party of four was rewarded with a variety of flavors and textures including a wonderful broiled fish cheek! The yellowtail plate with its south of the border fusion, combining tuna with cilantro and razor thin chilis was so good we requested a second plate! Other reviewers seem to care that the place was not packed, clearly those patrons were not concerned with the food. There are plenty of packed places that line Main Street and not one of them executes food in this high order. You can keep your fish n' chips: the folks who know fish and Japanese cuisine will stick with the Zero.

Everytime I've dined here, I've been royally treated. The high end sakes were wonderful and the absynthe, and both were wonderfully served in unique and beautiful decanters and glassware. I recommend the Tuna Tataki, the unusual salads and scallop dishes.

After seeing this restauant my husband and I couldn't wait to try it. I went online and checked out their menu, as well as their prices, which seemed reasonable. I also discovered that they have a little happy hours, called zero hour, which is held from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. Since we would be arriving at 6:00 PM, I liked the idea of saving a few dollars. When we were seated I asked about their "Zero Hour" and was told that even though they only opened three months ago, they no longer honor it. I would have throught that they would have removed this ad from their internet menu. To my surprise, I also discovered their prices were higher on all items as well. The Edamame was hot, lightly salted, and wonderful. The Shrimp and chunky Cucumber Salad was alright. The Popcorn Shrimp was a large helping, but way had way too much batter on it for my taste. The dipping sauce that came with it was pretty much tasteless. The Buta Kakuni (pork) was wonderful! The draw back was that it only contained four small bites of pork, two of which contained a good size piece of fat. The Lettuce Wraps were very spicy, but over all pretty good. The Chicken Teriyaki had more fat in it than it had meat. I have never seen this much fat in a Chicken Teriyaki dish. We sent it back. Later, when we received our bill, they forgot to remove this dish from our bill. Our server quickly corrected it. The Orange Coconut Creme Brule tasted like "plain" Creme Brule. At almost seven dollars a serving, we expected it to taste really special, it didn't. The service was really good. The restaurant was relaxing and beautiful. Pros: Thumbs up Service and Ambience Cons: Too much fat in their meat!

This place is definitely a hidden jewel. The restaurant's opened just recently so it's just a matter of time before everyone finds out about the great food they serve here. Their "tapa" like dishes are not only spectacular but just as interesting. The ambiance that comes from the amazing decor makes the dining experience even more pleasant. I have been to several high end Japanese restaurants around L.A. and Orange county, and this place is very much comparable if not better! Pros: Great food and service
