Dr. Lionberger has replaced three of my joints - both hips and one shoulder - starting 10 years ago. In every case, the procedure and my options were thoroughly explained to me, as well as what to expect post-surgery. In all cases, he personally called me the evening before surgery, and followed up after surgery. His staff provided detailed instructions on what I had to do before surgery - getting medical clearances, pre-registering, etc. - and post -surgery - meds, incision care, level of activity and rehab, etc. The 10-year old hip is great and still shows no wear. Shoulders are tough - the rehab is much more involved than hips. However, I followed his and the physical therapist's instructions and have a very functional shoulder now. Expect to be at 80% on shoulder rehab in about a year, close to 100% in 2 years. I'm now at 5 years and very happy with the shoulder. Second hip was a month ago. Less invasive than 10 years ago and only 1 night in the hospital. I have been very happy with my treatment and the outcomes of all three replacements. If I have to have another and Dr. Lionberger is still practicing, he will be my guy again.

I hope that Dr. Lionberger is a fine doctor. On surgery day he seems preoccupied and short on conversation. My step mother once fell down some stairs and injured herself. Dr. Lionberger was pulled out of surgery at her request by the emergency room. She complained that Dr. Lionberger gave her only a cursory examination and did not provide sufficient care. I suffered a severe compound fracture to my leg and Dr. Lionberger put it together with way more toe turnout than what my good leg has. Perhaps this was unavoidable, but Lionberger explained it that he chose to give my foot a lot of turnout in order to match my natural turnout. If that's true, then he missed. Finally on my recent surgery, things with him went south as he and his office acted in an unprofessional manner over a simple matter of an insurance pre-certification of his prescription. On top of all that, I was admitted to the hospital with the surgery scheduled for the wrong leg. As incredible as it seems, when I was on a gurney and a nurse came to do a pre-surgery interview of allergies and such, in my chart I was recorded for the wrong leg. (Needless to say this was corrected before the surgery). In conclusion, this office, and Dr. Lionberger himself, are unprofessional in various ways. The phone goes unanswered. My voice mails were not answered the same day. They don't do pre-certification of prescriptions, which may cost the patient extra money. The office staff is arrogant and condescending. Dr. Lionberger will address issues of payment and misunderstandings and complaints personally, which most doctors are above, and he's not nice about it. Dr. Lionberger will side with his staff rather than listen to the patient or adopt a "the customer is always right" attitude. Dr. Lionberger will pick up the phone and "set the patient straight" if his people complain to him. This office got my orders wrong to the hospital and I was checked in for the wrong leg. Dr. Lionberger is very arrogant, adopting an "I do what I do. Like it or look elsewhere" policy.

I was told I would be in a wheel chair and to get used to it. I have always been a very active person and did not only did not want this for the rest of my life but I had a young child to take care of. After seeing numerous doctors in other states, I came to Dr. Lionberger. I am walking and enjoying life and especially am a mother to my child. Thank you doctor and your team of professionals for making this possible. Anna-Marie G.

Dr. Lionberger did a revision (replace a replacement done by another dr.) plus a new total hip replacement for me. Was out of the hospital after overnight stays. Great Dr. who loves his job.

Dr. Lionberger did surgery on my knee five years ago; he explained everything to me thoroughly ahead of time, made sure I'd tried everything else first, and did an excellent job on the surgery. I feel great, where I could hardly walk before, due to pain from a misaligned ligament. He has also treated several people I know for sports injuries, and I have never heard a single complaint. Good practice, and good bedside manner -- what more could you want?

This is another doctor my mom saw before having surgery on her foot after a terrible fall at work. Like all of the doctors from the Southwest Orthopedic Group, Dr. Lionberger was wonderful. He took extra time to explain to both my mother and myself what had happened to her foot and how it would be fixed.
