I love Pub! On the weekdays it's a great place to relax after a long day at work. On the weekends, it's a fun dance club! It's awesome! They have a great happy hour and I always get the best service. The waitresses and bartenders are always so happy and nice. I think stylegal543 might be a really depressed and dumb person, because I love the tall blonde (Amber), she's beautiful! She is always smiling and is a great bartender! I love Pub Fiction and tell all my friends to go there!!!!!!!
Pros: drink specials, nice crowd, friendly staff
Cons: nothing

I used to be a regular here but the quality of bartenders have definitely declined. I would say watch out for the dim witted, tall blonde! Run don't walk to the other bar...Definitely not attractive enough to be considered mere decoration; we sat at the bar drinking the same thing, and still recieved the wrong drink EVERY time we ordered. Not mention how long it took her to get anyone's order since it was pretty slow AND she was the only one working. Considering a monkey with a sign would have done a better job, later we both find out that our cards were authorized for 2-3 times the amount of our bill (which consisted of a couple drinks and overpriced breading with chicken bites mixed in). I must say I wolud rather eat sawdust than encounter this bartender again. Hopefully the fix the problem before she drives business away.
Pros: Cheap drinks
Cons: Bad service

I love going to Pub after work and on the weekends. The drink specials are a great value. My favorite are the $3 mimosas (half price on Sundays) and beer buckets. There are always a few groups of fun professionals. The music is a good mix of pop, hip-hop, rock and played so you can talk. The outdoor seating is another plus. I like the projector for watching big football games outside. The menu is the best bar food in Midtown and really anyother place I've been to in Houston. I highly recommend the buffalo burger and wraps. Yummy!
Pros: Great food and drinks, perfect set-up for groups, couples, and singles
Cons: Sometimes poor service outside

I love Pub Fiction (minus the shoe policy)! I always stop there when I am out and about in the Midtown area. There is usually an 80's cover band playing. It is a larger place with a sports bar in the back. The tv's play old episodes of Miami Vice. There are a lot of tables and couch-like booths to sit in. The patio has a nice ambience to hang out (smoker friendly). The drinks are moderately priced. There are specials on the weekdays and early hours. The food is typical bar food, neither good or bad. The crowd is a 20's to young 30's. It is a hot spot for after work.
Regarding the Dress Code: Do not plan on wearing tennis shoes or work boots on a weekend after 9 pm. I have been with people on several occasions that get turned away. Even a nice Puma can't walk through the door. Even on 4th of July, when the place was dead, they tried turning away a high profile friend wearing what appeared to be work boots. He ended up getting in but the entire situation was ridiculous. I partly respect a shoe policy, however they allow flip flops on a hot summer night, but not a dark athletic style shoe. I understand that the door people get a power trip when they turn people away, but seriously...they employees wear black shirts with their names iron on crookedly.
Pros: Ambience
Cons: Shoe Policy

Come early enough to find a seat. If you are standing, the isles are narrow, you'll get pushed around by customers if not by servers who seem busy until you are seated. If you happen to be at the table, it'll be a solid hour in between visits, so buy plenty of drinks each time they visit.
Bathrooms were secluded and clean. Live music wasn't too loud, it was nice to sit, it got louder as the evening progressed, but overall a relatively nice experience.
Pros: high tables are nice. seats had cushions. no smoking in here.
Cons: slow service. very narrow isles. WAY over crowded at the actual bar.

I've patroned Pub Fiction multiple times. I've been denied the opportunity to patron Pub Fiction twice. The place caters to yuppies, that's a fact. If you don't like it, leave it. I am not a yuppy, but Pub Fiction no doubt is a great place to go to meet females (fine ones at that). Most of the crowd are college 20 yr.-old-somethings, or used to be (as I). Filled with lot's of people who like to go out and "look cool". I remember one time I was in line and the 2 guys behind me were complaining about the length of the line. One of them felt the need to bring up the length of his...well, I'll quote him, "F*ck, if they made a line based on the size of your d*ck I'd be right in the front." Obviously he's got the game of a champion. The times I was not able to enter were when I showed up with one of my boys and had on the Steve Maddens I wear EVERYWHERE (including all the previous times at Pub Fiction), and was told I wore sneakers. Eh, whatever I just made a call to the 4 girls (inside the bar) we were going to chill at Pub Fiction with and mosied on to a different place. If you know someone who knows someone on the staff, you'll have no trouble with entry as long as you dress right. All in all...if you have been to Pub Fiction, you know what to expect. If you haven't, you WILL understand once you arrive. The music is corny as hell everytime. The same old Top 40, although I think the crowd wouldn't know what to do if some new DJ's showed up. I've said a lot of negative things about the place, so let me give it some props for what the place has earned. HDTV. Anyone who appreciates that knows what's up. Nothing but HD in the place. Besides television, the restrooms are always clean, the drinks always good, and plenty of seating.
In conclusion, I never look forward to this place unless I'm meeting a group of friends. I would never come here by myself or with a friend to "look" for a good time. There are other quality, friendly places that cater to those nights.
Pros: Hot girls, good drinks, HD.
Cons: Doormen, Music, Yuppies

Now the not so great stuff: Why does this place scan driver's licenses? What do they plan on doing with that information? I understand that they don't want to let underage kids in, trust me I do, but why do they have to record my name, driver's license number, street address, social security number, or whatever other information is on my DL? Do they plan on getting credit cards with my info?
As for the place itself, it's big and has a nice decor, but the music is just plain horrible and generic. The DJ they have there plays stuff you would hear a wedding DJ play. You know..."jump around", "whoot there it is", and the ever cutting edge song "i like big butts". I don't know if they do this on purpose so only lame drunk white guys with their A&M hats get on the dance floor or the DJ is really that horrible.
Really I don't think this place would be nearly as busy if it were not in mid-town and had to stand on its own merit. I can't explain any other reason why it's busy.
Pros: Nice TV's
Cons: "just turned 21" crowd, Lame Wedding DJ, No free parking, Lame WEdding DJ again

I am extremely annoyed by small lounge/bars that try to create an air of "exclusivity". Pub Fiction is my FAVORITE pub in mid-town. It's a great place to have a drink with friends, grab some food, listen to whatever band may be playing. . Very unpretentious- just a place to come out and have a great time, you can come in dressed trendy or a little more comfortable. The crowd isgreat, the atmosphere is great- I love coming here.
Pros: Great food, Great crowed- Not a pretentious bar
Cons: None.

My boyfriend and I went to Pub Fiction last night and the bouncer would not let us in. because he categorized my boyfriend's Steve Madden shoes as sneakers. When I questioned him about other men already inside the bar wearing sandals, flip flops, or Nike sneakers he said that was o.k. because they must be with a party that reserved ahead of time. Needless to say my boyfriend and I were livid because we went to party with a large group of friends (20+), and some were visiting from Las Vegas. As I stood by the door waiting for some of my friends to come meet me so I could at least say hello and see them I noticed the bouncer rejecting guys that looked Middle Eastern and Hispanic. It was ridiculous to see this actually happening because they were given excuses that their jeans were baggy or no sneakers allowed. Mind you, there is one guy in particular that stood out because he was Caucasian, wearing loose jeans, Nike sneakers, but was accompanied by two blonde Caucasian girls with short dresses much higher than mid thigh, and they walked right in.
I asked to speak with a Manager and was told they were much too busy and couldn't be contacted. The bouncer wouldn't provide me with the manager's name either.
I will never go back to that place again!
