Grand Bayou Noir, located in Bayou Black. I love it! I've stayed there a few times, and every time I am treated like royalty by the staff. The grounds of this place is what keeps you coming back. You can just walk around and find something new around every turn, you can just relax and watch the bayou stream along in the back of the house! The rooms are very comfortable and have TVs so if you do need to return to reality and watch the 6:00 News, you can do so. Grand Bayou should be experienced by every visitor from afar that wants to see what the lazy southern lifestyle is really all about. The price isn't too bad for a Bed and Breakfast, either.

Plantation Inn fits in that category of low-priced hotel rooms in the area such as Sugar Bowl, Red Carpet, A Bear, Holiday Motel, and Lake Houmas Inn. It is by far the best of those. There is a nice lounge downstairs off of the lobby, The lobby itself is rather clean and inviting. The room prices are reasonable and the rooms are always clean and everything works. I have had to stay in this hotel because of a hurricane for a few days, and it was actually a pleasant experience. It is your basic necessity motel, no frills at all, just a clean room and a cushy place to sleep, which is more than I can say for most of the aforementioned places.

Sugar Bowl Motel is your average "cheap" motel where many seedy characters like to go. Regardless of this, I am still perplexed after staying there, why they are charging almost $50 a night for a double. It's not a very safe neighborhood, there is always traffic in and out of the place and it is extremely noisy, while staying there, I must have gotten up a few times to see if there really was someone loitering outside my window. This is not a very good place to bring your family if you are going to be staying in Houma. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone really, and I don't understand how they stay in business being $50 a night when the even more seedier A-Bear and Lake Houma's Inn are a few miles away, and a lot cheaper.

A-Bear is possibly the worst motel I've ever had the misfortune at staying at, and that's saying a lot. The room is dirt cheap, but there is a reason it is cheap, like most things. Upon arrival, the bed wasn't made, and the A/C unit seemed to be out of order so they put me in a different room..beforehand I asked them to change the bed while I watched. Most people who go here are the lowlifes of societies..prostitutes and drug dealers. That night I saw a giant roach in the bathroom and there apparently was someone getting busy in the room next to me because that's what I heard all night long. I don't think I've ever been more scared that the police would come pushing down my door in some sort of routine raid on the place. Don't go to A-Bear, unless you are used to and don't mind staying at places that are hazardous to your health.
