Ike Pono Limited is a company that sells books, generally to students through their schools. In my last two years at Punahou School, we bought our textbooks from Ike Pono. Our teachers weren’t very happy with them because of their mismanagement; for example, books that were needed arrived weeks later, not enough books were ordered, the wrong books were ordered, etc. I wasn’t too pleased with Ike Pono myself. For one, the prices that they sell new books (or resell used books) are pretty high. I paid more through Ike Pono than I would normally. However, they do buy back books, although they really do give students a raw deal. A book that you bought for $100 might be bought back for about $10; it would honestly be smarter to sell your used book online. Their collection is good, though, and they offer refunds (although it takes about ten days to get your money back).

118 Pantry is the place that I always have my dinner. The first reason is that they open until 9 p.m.. It is very difficult to find a place to eat after 7 p.m. in downtown. Second, the service is very nice. When I go there, it is like I'm in my kitchen. We can see them while they are cooking. Therefore, you food is new and fresh. The prices is not too bad. You have better call and order before going to the place during the meal time. Otherwise, you will have to wait for your queue.

haven't been here in a little bit, but went 3 times last year! we really loved it. the first time i sat at the bar with a couple girlfriends b/c they were booked out. the food was really good and the waitress was just as good about taking care of us as if we were at a table. and when we couldn't decide which wine to order, she offered us a free sampling of two of them (they have their liquor license now)!
the next time, i took my husband and he loved the smoked chicken fettucine (it's WAYYYYYYYYY better than it sounds). i ordered the pork chop, which i guess is their specialty. it was very good. again, the service was wonderful and the waiter really knowledgeable and helpful about wines. again, he gave us a little sample to help us decide. my husband raved all the way home about the fettucine (i kept thinking, "this is just fettucine! geez!")
the third time, we brought a couple friends and jim talked one of them into the fettucine. so i tried some of hers and i have to admit, it was FREAKIN' GOOD. i don't know what it was, but it's not just chicken fettucine. there's sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and other goodies in there and the sauce just makes it. i had the first so-so dish i've had there...i think it was lamb. but i love lamb and i was craving it. but it turned out not so good. but it was my fault b/c i did ask the waiter like i always do for recommendations and when i asked about the lamb, he said he'd probably pass on it, but i really wanted lamb for some reason that night and i should've listened to him. at least he was honest and accurate. :) i think it was something about the sauce--it was weird.
anyway, i'd still go back! but there are too many great places in honolulu i haven't tried yet!

The 24 hour fitness on Bishop has a lot to offer its members. The gym itself is in the basement, and it is cool and comfortable. There is a varitey of cardio machines, weight machines and free weights throughout the gym, as well as ab balls and mats. They have a locker room, sauna and steam room. They also offer classes throughout the week, and have two group exercise studios. Gets a little crowded around 5 pm, when everyone gets out of work. Staff is very friendly, they will even give you a free fitness evaluation when you join and a pass for one week free. I would recommend this gym to anyone who is looking for a good place to work out that has already been to other gyms before (probably not for the beginner).
PROS: large gym, lots of equipment, class variety, amenities
CONS: not for beginners

I'd never go to another 24 hour Fitness again! I was invited by a friend to go to visit the 24 hour fitness in Waikiki with a free pass and finally agreed to go with him after 4 months of begging.
I talked to Denver (assist mgr ) who tried to persuade me to join the membership with no down tonight. I was hesitant because I was not sure if i would be able to commit so quickly and I did not bring my wallet with me to pay $23 for a one time fee.
Basically, Denver went around the bush but I got the hint that either I sign up today or I go home due to the fact that I was a club member 3-4 years ago and didn't qualify for the pass. However, he could NOT pull my name up in the system. He also did not sympathize with me that my friend was waiting for me to work out with him. All he did was shrug and gave me this look "this is our policy." I'm a salesperson in my career as well and I know he was just trying to make commission. I personally felt discriminated b/c he did not see me as a potential client.
I have never used the Waikiki location before and I just wanted to try it out. Every club has its own environment as well as difference in equipment. I was very frustrated with the way the situation was handled. I was a former client and now I can't even go back to try another location out for ONE day with possibility that I will sign up in the future. Denver did not apology for the inconvenience although I showed much frustration and embarrassment that I had to tell my friend I could not stay.
As a corporation, I hope they learn to train their sales employees to be more professional and accommodating, especially towards former and potential clients.
Two weeks after my complaint to their corporate office, the manager at the Waikiki branch called and offered me a pass and he was surprised I was turned down that day when I said I was not there during late hours. All he could say was "oh, well I'm the manager so you can come back to visit" TOO LATE.

The 24 hour fitness on Kalakaua definitely has the best view, overlooking Waikiki and the ocean. But the gym itself is small, and has very little to offer its members. They only offer a spinning class, no other aerobics. The equipment is packed tightly in the small space. The gym is also very hot, as it is open-air to the beach outside, which is generally not a good thing when you are working out. The staff didnt seem to know what they were doing when I was there. The other 24 hour fitness gyms are much better, overall.
PROS: view
CONS: small, no classes, lack of variety of equipment

It's rare that restaurant undersells itself in something as simple as its name. I'm sure the "three stars" referenced in 3 Star Gourmet Restaurant's name has some significance other than alluding to the ubiquitous 5-star rating system.
3 Star is located in the Education America building on Bishop Street in downtown Honolulu. The menu consists of salads, sandwiches, and a selection of entrees with a bias towards seafood, most ranging from $5 to $8. Major credit cards are accepted.
The kitchen is in plain view behind the counter, so you can watch the chefs stepping over each other at times in the tiny kitchen.
My favorites are the homemade-style cheeseburger, which is served with french fries, and the Cajun shrimp salad with either balsamic or oriental dressing.
