Being from Hawaii, we have to talk about Shave Ice. Waiola has the finest shave ice in Hawaii (in my opinion). They also have the widest selection of flavors. Can you imagine - they have both coconut AND haupia flavors. If you like finely shaved ice, then Waiola is the place to go. You can add your choice of ice cream, mochi balls, azuki beans, and/or condensed milk. Lots of choices!
NOW, if you want a MEDIUM cut of shaved ice, I would recommend B&S on School street. They do not have a listed phone number so I cannot make a separate post. B&S is located between Nuuanu and Liliha streets, just after the Aala street bridge. They don't have as many flavors as Waiola, but they do have the option of adding ice cream and/or azuki beans to their shave ice. I personally prefer the medium cut.
If we're to make this a true Hawaii website, then I'd like to hear what others have to say about shave ice.

The best shave ice I ever had!! They have a variety of flavors but what makes all the difference is how fine their ice is! Talk about melt in your mouth! You can also have ice cream and / or azuki beans on the bottom. I get mine with both. It is sooo yummy! My mom likes it here the most too. Perfect for any day of the week!

Go here for shave ice (almost everything else is too expensive). Its shave ice is comparable in quality to the shave ice served at Matsumoto Shave Ice (in my opinion, the best shave ice on the island), but it is more convenient if you are around town. Located in McCully, a short drive from town, Waiola is also deservedly famous for its shave ice. It boasts 35 flavors, although the prices at Waiola are a little bit higher – about 50 cents more than at Matsumoto. The shave ice is extremely finely chopped, the flavors are great, and like Matsumoto, for a little extra, you can get azuki beans, ice cream, and condensed milk with your shave ice. My only complaint is that sometimes they don’t put enough flavoring for it to reach the ice at the bottom of the cup, so if you eat too fast, you’ll be eating plain, unflavored shave ice at the end. Other than that, Waiola Shave Ice should definitely be a destination on your itinerary.
