I stayed at the Moana Surfrider hotel one night on a layover to Maui. The hotel is beautiful, with a huge Banyan tree in the courtyard, but the rooms are tiny. I would have gone completely nuts staying here for more than a night. It is located right on the beach, so you are paying for convenience. The street side of the hotel is overrun with tourist traps, but it is Hawaii so some of that cannot be avoided.

This hotel is located right on the beach. We had a room with a great view of the beach, pool and diamond head. The staff was extremely freindly. Would stay here again.

Can't get any closer to the beach. Beautiful view of Diamond Head. Centrally located in Waikiki, so you have to contend with traffic and parking getting and out of the area.

I stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki and I found the hotel to be fair but not special. I liked the nightly singers/performers that would appear pool side. My main disappointment was that my room was smelly and the cleaning was below par. The hotel room turnover is obviously high so cleanliness should be a priority. The hotel is not cheap.

Although I did not stay at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider, we did stop in there. This is a very elegant well appointed hotel and considering it opened in 1901, the premises would never indicate it was over 100 years. There is free entertainment on the beach side of the hotel and every Saturday night, couples are invited to renew their wedding vows at a beachside ceremony, given leis and certificates all at no charge whether you are a hotel guest or not. This would be my next choice for a hotel to stay with at my next visit to Waikiki
PROS: Beautiful, romantic, well appointed
CONS: None
