People joke about Starbucks being on every corner, but they have nothing on ABC stores in Honolulu. There seem to be two on every block. They are a nice convenience store, although they also sell things like fresh-fruit and souvenirs. The employees at the several that I visited were consistently friendly and helpful if I couldn't find something. I got some gifts to take home, and some needed essentials for myself (batteries, food, etc.) If your in Honolulu, don't worry about having to look for a place, and don't worry about finding what you'll need.

These little stores are everywhere! And boy, do they have ANYTHING you want. We got coffee and filters there after finding out our hotel charged $2 for in-room coffee; batteries, papaya, nuts and other things - all there. I agree, for locals they'd be too expensive... But if you're lacking anything as a tourist there, don't worry - just go get it. Takes all the headache out of forgetting things at home!
PC. Don't pay more than 99c for the bamboo beach mats though :)

ABC Stores are the drug store of Waikiki and it offers regular drung store stuff to Hawaiian Suveniours. Some of the items are definitely priced higher than they would be at local drug store such as Long's. So, if you can, I recommend you to go Long's at Ala Moana Shopping Center, where you can shop for more things!! Though ABC stores always offers the best price for Manoa Cholocaltes brand!!

I used to think that 7-Eleven is everywhere in my home country, However, when i came to Hawaii, now I think ABC stores are my new 7-Eleven.
I definitely agree with many reviewers that ABC Stores are everywhere in Waikiki. They are located almost every block in Waikiki to catch every tourist that walk around Waikiki.
The price is higher than any other mini-marts in Waikiki. Everything is overpriced.
The only thing that has a good deal is
Manoa Lao Machademia Nuts 6 packs for $16.99 which is same price as you can get from other local stores such as Long Drugs.
For tourists, I think ABC Stores is convenience for them to shop. they don't have to get out of Waikiki, they can get all souveniers from ABC Stores. some japanese tourists do not the car, they probably stuck in Waikiki and they think ABC stores have good price for them (compare to Japanese currency).
If you (tourists) have car, i think you should go shop somewhere else such as WalMart, K-mart, Daiei, and Long Drugs... It's a lot cheaper over there.
For locals, I don't think you should shop here! Seriously!

ABC Stores have dominated Waikiki and they are opening new ones up in Las Vegas too. I admire their domination of nearly every corner location there is in Waikiki. Very smart business strategic. This is a local chain so it's better than having Walgreen or something other chain in Hawaii.
I live in Waikiki and sometimes I really need to pick up misc ingredients for cooking, etc. The prices are marked at least 20% higher on most things. However, I was able to get butter for about $1.50 and soda was decent too. Other items? Expect to pay an arm and a leg.

I have gone to the ABC stores to buy puka shell necklaces to ship to friends on the mainland. They cannot believe that it only costed me six dollars. I have also gone there to buy cheap beach mats for less than $1.50 each, used them for a couple of days and tossed them. This is a store that is definitely somewhere that you need to visit if you are a tourist visiting the islands.

If you are a local and you shop at ABC, I wonder what is wrong with you. They are rip-offs. The prices there are higher on everything than anywhere else, totally marked up to rip off tourists who will then go back to the mainland and say how expensive Hawaii is. If you are a tourist and you have a rental car, you would do yourself good to avoid these and shop at the same normal stores that are also on the mainland like Walmart and KMart. These stores have tourist sections too. Better yet, get your souveniers at the Swap Meet and really save yourself some money.

ABC stores are located at every corner in Waikiki its ridiculous. It’s almost as bad as Starbucks. They cater mostly to tourists selling items such as sun block, island snacks, disposable cameras, and souvenirs. Generally the things there aren’t that cheap but you can occasionally find a good deal for some items that are on sale. They also provide and accept currency exchanges for yen.

There must be 30 stores in Waikiki. They can be found everywhere! They have a great selection of local products which of course include coffee's, chocolate covered Macadamia nuts, and island wear. While they are in the "high rent district" their pricing is fair for the convenience factor. The stores are well kept and organized. I wouldn't say that I shop there, but if I were a tourist this one stop shop will get you about anything you need.
