Like previous reviews have mentioned, this is one of the most popular place to go for the locals and informed travelers! Nothing compares. Large portion, absolutely local authentic taste and it's just located in this area that you'd enjoy sitting and share a meal after the beach or just chill out with friends. If you are tired of the touristy stuff in Waikiki, I recommend strongly to stop by here and grab lunch. This is what the locals do, and you should do it also.

When I worked in the Kapahulu area, Rainbow Drive-In was conveniently located one block away from my office. Being a creature of habit (and slightly lazy and/or short on time), I frequently picked up a quick lunch at Rainbow Drive-In. Parking is very tight and extremely scarce, which, fortunately, was not a problem for me since I came on foot. My favorite lunch-on-the-go was Rainbow's cheeseburger deluxe, french fries, and a slush float. The float was the highlight of the meal, followed by the crispy, skinny fries, often served fresh from the deep fryer. The burger was your typical, home-style burger, not too big, but pretty decent for what you paid.

We order from Rainbows frequently at work - usually for lunch, but occasionally for breakfast. If it's a breakfast run, the food portions are generous enough for at least 2 meals! When it's a lunch run, I usually get the Ham Steak plate lunch, but recently have tried a few others. They are all great. The other thing that they'll fix for you if you ask is for a Slush Float - a scoop of ice cream in a slush! A great afternoon pick-me-up! Yummy!

I know Rainbow Drive-in from Countdown Hawaii Show in Chan 16. Rainbow Drive-in has been voted by locals that it is the best local take-out in honolulu. it's not too far from waikiki. Rainbow Drive-In is next to 76 gas station. there's always a line for lunch time, especially weekend. lots of locals just drive to pick-up their lunch after surfing. the food portion is big. the price is reasonable. I like thier burgers and mixed plates. sometimes they have beef stew on the menu... that's good too! Yummy Yummy .. getting hungry now! lol Enjoy!

I love coming to this drive in when I am in the Waikiki - Kapahulu area. If I want something to eat that is fast and cheap then I come here. The drive in is not fancy at all, it is located right next to the main highway so you can here the cars drive by when you eat. The food makes up for it because it is delicious and you get your money's worth.
