The McKinley High School Foundation was created by alumni to ensure that present students at McKinley can get the best possible education. Members hold foundraisers to raise money for groups like the Robotics Team, Math Team, Science Fairs, and Athletic Teams. They also give away thousands of dollars in scholarships each year. My cousin invited me over when he was leaving the islands for a new assignment. The room he had was okay I wouldn't consider it a luxury room or hotel by any stretch of the imagination. The pool is what I'd consider medium sized, the property has a nice tropical look and feel. Take a walk around.
If you know someone in the Military I believe you can be sponsored so you can rent a ballroom for a wedding or other function. I've been to several weddings there and even a High School reunion.
The food is always pretty good and the facility is nice. Once again, not what I consider luxury.

When I have visitors from Asia coming to town, this is the property I recommend to them. You are steps away from the beach. ( If you want to be on the beach, then you can stay at its sister hotel: the Halekulani.) Rooms here are spacious and tastefully furnished. There is validated parking. There is an heated outdoor pool. There is everything you could ask for in a luxury property. Their restaurant, the Parc Cafe, has excellent buffets for lunch and dinner.

I stayed here for the Navy Ball in 2003 with my husband. I was not impressed whatsoever with my room. We waited over an hour to check in and because of the wait, they upgraded us to a suite.
Once we got into our suite, the furniture was nothing special at all. Our toilet was broken and we actually had to call and instead of giving us a new room, they came in to service it. Talk about gross.
Upon check out, the line was about an hour again, so we did the check out on the TV instead. Imagine my surprise when a week later I get my Visa statement and I was charged over $900 for one nights stay. When I called and said my room charge should have only have been around $120, they said that we were charged $900 because we had reserved a suite and not shown or cancelled. When I explained that wasn't the case, they did end up comping the entire stay, but it wasn't enough to make me ever want to stay there again.
As far as the shops and restuarants there go, I do enjoy those. My recommendation would be to stay at a nicer hotel in Waikiki and then just walk to the village to take advantage of the shops and restuarants. Actually staying at the hotel isn't really worth it.

The Pagoda hotel has been a local favorite for folks seeking a cheap place to stay in the middle of Honolulu. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for (and maybe not even that).
Part of the problem is due to the age of the hotel – everything in the moderately sized rooms seems, well, very "experienced."
The other part of the problem? There are many other competitively priced hotels in the area, many of which offer promotional resident and visitor rates that aren’t that much more than a night at the Pagoda.
Probably the highlight of staying at the Pagoda is the restaurant and koi pond. Otherwise, shop around and splurge a little. It’s worth it.

My family and I have enjoyed staying at the Hawaii Prince Hotel located at the entrance to Waikiki. The main draw for this hotel is convenience and location. It is a five minute walk to the Ala Moana Shopping Center (the world’s largest Outdoor mall) and the Ala Moana Beach (where the locals go). Situated right along side the harbor, each room has a ocean view of the harbor and/or Ala Moana Beach. There is a pool, located at the top of the “mezzanine” floors, but the convenience of the property is the main draw.

Got a business trip to Hawaii? Book a room at the Executive Centre. It is located in the center of Downtown Honolulu, so it is the perfect place to be when you have a business meeting in downtown. But, this place is good only if you are going to be in Downtown. There is a restaurant/café on the ground floor, starbucks literally right next to the building, Jamba Juice 1 block away, and many more convenient shops. But, I definitely do not recommend this place to vacationers. You definitely do not get the Hawaiian homey feeling by staying at this place!!

When my friends came in from NYC, they stayed at this hotel, and they were pretty satisfied with their services and accomodations. The hotel is located between Waikiki and Ala Moana Shopping Center, facing the Yacht Harbor. There are few shops and restaurants around, so you can go to places in a walking distance. I like this place also because the area is not so crowded, but also, it is in a convenient location. If you want to get away from the Waikiki crowed, I definitely recommend you to try the Prince hotel!

I stayed here in the past over the weekend. This hotel is located near the Prince Kalakaua Statue at the beginning of Waikiki. Even though the hotel is old and plain, the rooms are nice and comfortable, nothing fancy. There is not much of a view and there are not a lot of amenities and services at this hotel but it is definitely affordable.
