Down to Earth is located on S. King st. My girlfriend loves to go there. She really likes healthy stuffs. That's why i know this place. Actually, i'm not so into this kind of store, but the good thing is i have a chance to make myself healthier! haa haa haa ^_^
This store sells organic vegetables and bulk foods, wide selection of supplements, herbs, and cosmetic products. Most products are vmade from organic products.
These are examples of what they have in the store.
Cereals, bulk grains and nuts, breads, many varieties of honey, nonalcoholic beer, teas, snacks, environment-friendly paper and household products, and a vegetarian juice and sandwich bar.
For people who love organic products, this is the place you probably know already.
For people like me (not so healthy, like to eat fried stuffs), this is the good place to start!
Be healthy! :p

I've been going to Tamashiro market for over 30 years and we always buy our shelfish there. They always have live prawns, crabs, and pickled mango. If you like to eat poke, definitely try their poke. You know the fish will be fresh and the flavor is very good. The store is not very big and the cashiers are tightly packed in the front by the entrance. The parking is tight and you usually have to park across the street in the church parking but it is worth it to get the fresh fish.

I love that I can get everything from my organic needs, local favorites, and even alcohol in one place. I even found my new favorite liqueur TYKU here, they really have cleaned up their act!!
P.S. A makai card at foodland is definitely a must if you really want to take advantage of their discounts.

Times has always been my favorite supermarket on the island. It's not the most economical but their produce was always fresh and with a nice variety.
Recently, the one on Beretania has been going through major renovations and it's harder to find my way around. I've also noticed the prices are a little higher.
I know change is inevitable but I really miss the old Times...but at least their produce is still fresh!

I knew Daiei back when it was called Holiday Mart. The store will undergo a similar transformation later this year as it transitions to its new owner's brand, the strangely named Don Quixote out of Japan.
Regardless of what it's called, Daiei has remained true to its mission of selling a variety of goods all under one roof. There is a full grocery, meat, fish and produce department, along with everything from auto supplies to toys to televisions. I've actually found a better selection of car polishes at Daiei than I have at WalMart or even Checker's Auto Parts.

I would say Palama Super Market offer its customers a wide range of Korean food and other ingredients that any other super markets have. In another word, Palama Super Market is not just a super market that specilize in asian food, but they specialize on Korean food. Their shop is pretty bright, neat and clean. they also have a little Korean food court in thier super market.
I like thier meat section. they have a pretty good&fresh short ribs, ribs eye, and a lot more that perfect for BBQ. If you want to do BBQ outside on the weekend, Palama super market is the good place that you can get all kind of meat and ingredients for Korean BBQ.
I also like thier Kim Chee bar as well. They have different kind of Kim Chee and vegetables that you normally on-the side when you have Korean BBQ.
I love their Tae-Gu... I'm really addicted to it! so Yummy. .can't help it!
However, the price is a bit pricey that other super market and parking lot is kind of limited. But, i hope you will enjoy shopping at Palama super market. I still ike to go there once in a while.
Enjoy!

Nestled in a crowded strip mall near Kaimuki High School, Fujioka's is a gem of a store offering a vast selection of wines from around the world. Being a proper wine merchant, they store all their bottles except the one display bottle on their side. If you have a penchant for a particular style of wine, chances are they have it there--on a recent trip, I encountered no less than 4 different bottles of a lesser-known Italian variety. And the price? Well, if you're into expensive wines, you'll find it...but you'll find much more reasonably-priced wines (the wine I mentioned had ranged from 11 to 40 dollars a bottle--I chose the 11 dollar bottle). They also offer a small selection of sakes and display a sign describing each sake's qualities. Also offered are regular hard liqours and a small section devoted to gourmet foods like cheese and pastas. But Fujioka's is a wine store first and it shows.

More
Forget that supermarket ham and splurge once in while with a great ham from Honey Glazed Hams. I say splurge because at around $7.50/lb, expect to pay about $45 for the smallest half ham. While cheaper per pound than steak at most supermarkets, you usually don't buy a steak that weighs 6 lbs. But the investment in this ham is worth it (even more so if you have a vacuum sealer) because the ham is so tender and flavorful it makes supermarket hams taste like plain old pork boiled in water or something. If I have one gripe about their ham it's the honey glaze...it forms this thick overly sweet crust that tastes burnt in some places. But the crust is easily removed so it's only a small gripe. They also feature more sweet goods like cookies and candies all packaged up for gift-giving (or for self-eating). And for lunch you can even get a sandwich made w/this awesome hand. Just don't make the mistake of going on a Sunday or Monday...because you'll find that no one is there (they're closed).

Its basically your typical grocery store. Its nice and they are normally very active in the community. The people are normally nice. Catch their sale because that is about the only time where the price is worth it. Other than that its a fairly nice place to shop.

Typically this is an asian only type of store. They sell everything a normal grocery store sells except most of it is Japanese. During the holidays they usually bring in really good mochi which is imported from Japan. It is absolutely amazing. Also, they typicall are selling andagi (which on a bad day makes everything better). They always have a large supply of sushi. We usually go in the afternoon when they start marking things down (its the chinese side of us). Also, they have bentos which I see a lot of grandparents picking up for their grandchildren for school or field trips. The fresh produce is always nice. Also, their cosmetic and health section is mostly all Japanese items and fair prices. A lot the asian food is at cheaper prices then you'll see elsewhere.
