This has to be the best Cantonese / Hong Kong style restaurant in town. I have tried numerous Chinese restaurants during my annual visits, and I found this restaurant's food quality to be consistently good and of best value. Make sure you try their lobsters! They are *always* on sale and they taste good! Also try their drunken clams. If you like to challenge yourself, try their Deep Fried Large Intestine. Excellent value and quality! Make sure you arrive early for prompt seating.
Pros: Value, Consistency, Food quality
Cons: Long wait time, Few large tables

I was shocked by the poor reviews for California Wok. I love this place! It is exceptional healthy fast food /take out. Everything is made to order. The food is not greasy, but still manages to be very flavorful. I love the chicken and steamed broccoli cooked in a light, clear, sweet ginger sauce. I seriously cannot put my fork down when I get this plate. Also the chicken steamed dumplings are amazing. They are simply ground chicken and chopped ginger and while that may seem like a boring appetizer, they are amazing. The chicken and ginger balance each other out perfectly. Portions are HUGE here for the price. I recommend for one person getting a half order of food, even for two perhaps because a full order is really enough for three people. The lunch special is the best value: salad, rice, and entree. But you have to get to California Wok before 4 for this deal. This place is more expensive than regular fast food places, but if you care about your heart and arteries you often have to pay more. This place is a must every time I come to Honolulu. You can?t beat its convenience, price, and portions of this delicious health food. It?s also a much healthier option than any other restaurants, stands, or the food court. I wish they had one of these in California!
Pros: Healthy, Made to Order, Light dishes, Huge Portions
Cons: The sitting area is in a parking lot

I grew up having my mother bring us food from here every sunday so I am slightly bias to loving them. Most of their patronage comes from regular costumers. The pork hash is literally my favorite and I like to think is better then the really expensive places. However, it is literally a hole in the wall. Well, more like two holes in a wall (one for entrance and one for exit). However, you can watch them make it and it tastes really good. I do love the two types of rice cake they have and the elephant ears are also oober good. However, I don't think I really want to know whats in it.

I were lucky to find this chinese restaurant in Waikiki. I used to live in Waikiki 2 years ago. It was kind of hard for me to find a good chinese food with affordable price in waikiki. as you probably know, waikiki is a tourist spot. everything is expensive in waikiki.
Anyway, Fatty's providets a variety of chinese food with affordable price. I always order take-out from them. you can actually see how the chef cook your food in the restaurant. they also serve you right after they cook if you sit in front of the counter. you can feel the fresh of your food. Yummy Yummy!!
However, the place is really small.
Therefore, it's not good for big group or dine-in. This place is good for take-out order.
Enjoy!

This is your typical Hawaii chinese food place. The wait staff may come off a little rude, but thats only because their Chinese and know english but its mostly broken English. The food is good, but not amazing. However, I am a huge fan of their Shrimp and Walmut dish simply great. Its normally a quiet place and can be rented out for family gatherings and whatnot. The patrons that come here are normally ones that come here for all their Chinese. I come from a Chinese family and my grandmother approves of it so I guess its a good Chinese restauraunt. However, if your like real Chinese from China, this will be different cause this is more local kine Chinese food.

I have read a previous review by NarcissistQueen and have to disagree with her completely. I have been going to this restaurant 2-3/week for over 15 years (even in their previous location a block away) and have never had any problems with insects or quality of the food. yes, the staff is very "indifferent", but hey, it's a Chinese restaurant. However, they are very clean! I find it hard to believe that someone eats there for their first time and finds an insect in their food, when I have eaten there over 15 years and haven't found a single one. Seems like somebody just wanted to get a freebie. There's a reason why this place is always crowded and people come back for more. I hate to write a review because I'm afraid if too many people knew about this "gem," it would make it harder for me to get a table there.
Anyway, the prices are very reasonable between $6.50-$7.50 for the average dish. They do stuffed tofu w/ fishcake or pork hash very well. Among my favorites are the black bean clams, mochi stuffed duck (order in advance), lemon chicken, and chicken salad. the chicken salad is not your usual heavy dressing. It's tossed in a light white pepper, celery salt dressing. you will not even notice the dressing, but you'll taste the flavorful simplicity. The food is HONG KONG and CANTONESE -style, so don't be expecting Szechuan or Shanghia cuisine. Expect long waits and a crowded dining room if there are banquets and on holidays . . . probably best to take out under those circumstances, but call well in advance.
Bottom line: Consistently GREAT FOOD, CLEAN dining room, great VALUE, average waiter/waitress service. Bring family, but leave the romance to other restaurants.
Pros: Excellent Food, Large Portions, Small Prices
Cons: Long waits on holidays and during large parties

We came here for our last meal during our visit to Hawaii, with a big group. The dishes came out pretty quickly, and everything we ordered was yummy. There was nothing on the table I didn't like. Being one of the only chinese person at the table, I suggested a lot of the dishes to the group and I think pretty much any choice on the menu was good. I especially liked the chicken dishes as well as the shrimp dishes.
The service here can't be beat! Waiters were very attentive and super nice.

Royal Palace is your above-average chinese restaurant. It has a family-style atmosphere, and the service is good. The food is very delicious compared to other chinese restaurants - not too greasy and not too filling.

One of my favorite dishes here is the deep fried shrimp smothered in what appears to be a mayonaise and Walnut sauce. This stuff is great! Another one of my favorites is the duck in bun with black bean sauce, of course the sauce is what makes it taste so good. The parking here is a bit tight in the rear of the building, and some of the other dishes are a bit salty for my taste.
