It has actually moved to the Mariott. Its still the best sushi I have ever had and I have had a lot of sushi. My friends and I agree Sansei literally has the most amazing sushi in the world. Genki's and sushiman don't even begin to compare. Nor does Pagoda or any other restuarant in terms of good sushi. The best part about this place is that all their sushi is half off on two days between something like 5 and 6 (check website for details). The catch is that one you have to be a resident of hawaii, and that you must order by a certain time. Lines start to form about a half-hour before doors open. I once got there forty-five minutes prior and was first in line. They come out about fifteen minutes prior to take sushi bar requests. Despite many people not liking to eat at the sushi bar, I would say take it because its so much better. If you take sushi bar you get seated first and when you want to order you tell it straight to the sushi chefs. Thus, your order is alwaysin first and if you think they're slow you can just tell them without ever tracking your waitress or waiter down. Also, I'd say in teh wait outside the restaurant look at the menu and know what your immediately going to order. WE typically go in rounds of ordering because everything is typically shared family style. We go with four rolls off the bat for four people and tell the chefs immediately when we get in. If you don't get your initial order in quickly you probably will regret it when the chefs get backed up with tons of orders. Thats the basic advice. You'll be super glad you went here. Seriously, the sushi is the best in the states.

Akasaka is a hidden treasure. This is one of the best small sushi and japanese cuisine in downtown. This is a really small restaurant but man does it have a big taste. I love the scallops and the soy beans are awesome.

The restaurant is located in the Ala Moana Hotel on the lobby level. But it's kind of a hidden treasure behind gift shops near the side entrance.
Great sushi, great udon and soba noodles. Their chicken teriyaki reminds me of yakitori stands in Japan. Crispy skin and the meat is NOT the dry chicken breast we all know of.
Reasonable prices with exceptional quality and taste. Definitely recommend this place.
The owner is nicest person i've met!
Pros: sauces, tempura, omakase, hot pots!
Cons: hard to find but worth the search.

Just wanted to write in on this b/c we were at the Waikiki Shopping Plaza last night and it reminded me that I hadn't been to Takeya in quite awhile. I always kept forgetting the name, so now if I forget, I can come back to my post. :) Anyway, it was quite reasonably priced--not cheap, not expensive. But the quality makes this place quite a value! Hope somebody will go check it out and tell me if it's still really good--or I may have to trek down there myself just to refresh my memory, ha ha. If I recall correctly, I think you order by the piece (not two pieces per order like some places), but the pieces seemed much larger than usual.

Since moving to Hawaii, I have come to love Pho, a broth based noodle soup. I've tried many restaurants and have found Pho Mai to have the most flavor. The broth is rich, the meat is tender, and the vegetables are fresh. This is the only place I've been to who provides jalapenos in addition to the bean sprouts and basil. The spring rolls also have great flavor and are very crispy.
The best thing about Pho Mai is the price. It's very affordable.
Pros: speedy, friendly
Cons: parking

Nakamura Ramen offers arguably the best ramen in town. The prices are very reasonable for a restaurant in Waikiki. We usually combine shopping at Nike Town with lunch at Nakamura Ramen. Very highly recommended.

My daughter and I stayed at the Breakers in July and discovered Suishi Koh on the property. We can't say enough good things about their food, service, and hospitality. They are wonderful. And, we thoroughly enjoyed eating "healthy" while on vacation. We can't wait to go back! Thanks to the owners and their family for making our trip extra special.
If you are in Honolulu, you have to try this outdoor restaurant! It is terrific!

Pros: food and service is great...we felt like one of the family
Cons: absolutely none

I've been buying their "Odorico Special" for over 10 years. It consists of; rice, chicken, beef, tempura veggies and a small salad. Not your typical plate lunch. The portions are just right. The food is well prepaired and tastes GREAT!! The staff is always friendly. If you want to have a great meal at a great price in Waikiki, this is the place to go. I usually call ahead [about 10 minutes] for my order.

I visited KAIWA last week and ordered several Sushi rolls.
Fistly I would like to say they are using best ingredients and local friendly. I've heard that Kona Kampachi is from Kona, Big island, all greens including salad menu is from local farm is named Nalo farm and then fresh Heart of Palm Sashimi, which was really tasty! is from also Big island and so on...
Their service is very polite like Japanese are.
However I also have to mention this if you are planning to eat there. It took a quite long time before eating. So if you have enough time, you'll really enjoy their service and food!

Wow, this place is fantastic! From a person who has sushi a couple of minimum of a couple times a month and my nearby restaurant who delivers on my cell & home phone's speed dial, all I have to say is bravo!
My sister and I tripped upon this place when we were visiting my other sister at a nearby restaurant. She was flown in from Maui, and that's how we know of Shirokiya actually, from their previous Maui location. Sadly that place in closed now :(
About this place though, they have food. Tons of food that will put any food court into shame! The sashimi and sushi were so fresh, you'd think you died and ended-up at an authentic Japanese restaurant somewhere in some Prefecture in Japan, hee, hee!
They have mochi too! The fancy packing, straight outta Martha Stewart chi-chi style.
Fabulously authentic. Great fun, try it sometime!
