The Honolulu Zoo is a smaller, quiet zoo located at the end of the Waikiki strip. The outside is surrounded by a lush green plants and vines. It looks secluded area but once you get it, it even feels like you're in a different place. The zoo has a decent number of species to look at and you can get pretty close to the animals.
Admission is under $10 so it is worth it to plan to stay inside and have a picnic, etc.

I've always loved going to the Honolulu Zoo and my kids love to go as well. Major changes to the Safari is great for the animals but overall the zoo is the same. My kids favorite part of the zoo is the Petting Zoo. They love to run around looking at and petting the animals. It does get a litte hot and you get hungry after walking around a lot but the food is very expensive so we usually leave by half the day and eat out rather than at the zoo. They also have a souvenier shop in front but that too is alittle pricey.

The Elephant Encounter is the best at the Honolulu Zoo. I have been to the zoo many times but I have never feed the elephants before. My first time with my family was awesome. The elephants are such large and intelligent creatures. At first I was a little frightened to feed them but later I found out that it wasn't that scary. The elephants will feed right out of your hand! My son really enjoyed it and wanted to stay for a while to fee the elephants. Call the zoo for times and schedules for the Elephant Encounter. The zoo also has many other animals to see. I really enjoy looking at the reptile exhibit which is housed in a large cave-like structure.

This is a great zoo for the family. This zoo is not as big as some of the zoos on the mainland but the zoo has interesting exhibits and animals. They have birds such as flamingos, parrots, vultures, etc. They also have a reptile exhibit as well as a safari area with giraffes, gazelles, crocodiles, etc. The monkeys, I believe, are the most entertaining animals of all. The zoo admission is reasonable and worth it. It is very difficult to find free parking at this zoo.

I like to come here with my family. The zoo hasn't changed a lot except for some of the exhibits. The safari exhibit has expanded and the layout of the zoo is a little different. Otherwise, this is a great zoo to see a variety of animals. My favorite exhibit is the reptiles which you can see in an enclosed cave.

I have seen the zoo go through a lot of changes in the past and recently. The safari section of the zoo is better than it ever has been. The safari animals are probably more happy now that they have so much space. I love the elephant encounter which is one of my favorite exhibits. The concession also sells good snacks but it is pricey.

We would take our little red wagon, buy lunches from Rainbow Drive Inn and pack our child, the plate lunches and a small ice chest and tour the zoo. The biggest complaint for the kids is that it’s hot and they are tired. Riding in the wagon and sipping on a cold drink seems to alleviate all of that!

The zoo is a staple attraction in this household :) We became members to gain free entry each time (we go about once a month) and it is definitely worth it. My kids never tire of the zoo. I've learned a few things and that is to arrive before noon when it's a little cooler and hopefully less crowded. Bring hats, lather on the sunscreen, and have snacks and drinks available (they are sold in the park but can be expensive). And if you see the lions, I envy you... I haven't seen them yet.

The last time I went to the zoo was 6 or 7 years ago. I was suprised to see that alot of things have changed since I remember being there. Since the last time I've been there they've added that new african safari exhibit which I thought was pretty cool. It's buiildt to make you feel like you're walking on a trek through the african savanna.

Parking: is a bear (hahah, pun intended) once again, you fight for stalls with beachgoers...
The zoo's been about the same the last 20+ years I've been going to it. It is nothing like the San Diego Zoo or anything large like it. That being said, my kids still love going there to see the elephants, tigers, lions (if they are out), monkeys and the standard zoo animals. You can get through it in 2-3 hours. As Hawaii residents know, while the temperature is not as hot as the mainland, the humidity will make you feel as if you are in a sauna. Bring bottled water and sunscreen for the kids!
