Reservations a good idea. We stopped by at a little after 6 on 4/2/06. We were seated but the place immediately filled.
The food was delicious. Casual attire. Mostly locals it appeared.

We love Broadwalk Fish & Chips. Halfway down the Homer Spit on the right, this is the classic deep fried halibut (and other fish) place. It's totally casual, quick, and inexpensive ($40 for two people.) The food is fried, and fried, and fried. Don't forget to start with a clam chowder bread bowl. Yum.

The Homestead is on par with Cups and Lands End. It's a comfortable, spacious place about eight miles out on East End Road. The owners are delightful and make you feel at home. It's always moderately busy, so reservations are suggested, although they have a nice bar and plenty of walk in space during the week. The food is excellent and changes regularly, although there are a few mainstay dishes. The views are spectacular - try to get a seat facing out over Kachemak Bay.

Cosmic Kitchen is the best Tex-Mex in town by a mile. We love the place - super hippy style, delicious healthy food, mellow relaxing atmosphere, and gigantic portions. Get everything smothered - you want all the extra enchilada sauce. Breakfast, lunch, and now dinner is available. If you are in Homer, this is a must eat place.

Normally, in Homer you have to pay a lot for a few pieces of food. Captain Patties blew the cover off that one. We had a meal that was superb. Large portions, clean restaurant, table service...wonderful! We ordered Mozzarella sticks, a cheeseburger, crabmeat, and fried oysters. All dishes were were delicious, but the best part was the price...cheaper than the other restaurants that are self-serve.
Pros: Tasty food, great portions and prices
Cons: None

We heard that this was a good place to eat, but to make reservations. It was well worth the wait. The food at Cafe Cups is the best I have ever ate. We could have made a meal of the appetizer of mussels and streamers in a coconut sauce of some kind. It was absolutly to die for. I wish we were closer as I would love to once again sample that wonderful to die for appetizers. We are from Buffalo, WY and have nothing like this at all. We will definetly make reservations to eat there on our next trip.

Sourdough Express was started in 1982 in the back of a green truck. It's now an anchor restaurant in Homer between town and the spit. All three meals are good - the food is solid (sometimes great, always good), and the environment is cozy (although a little touristy). Make sure you check out the photo albums on the tables - it's good "alaska-rama".

There are two Frosty Bears - one in town and one on the Homer Spit. We like the one on the Spit better, but if you're lazy, the one on Pioneer will do.
A sushi meal requires ice cream for dessert. An ice cream addict requires ice cream after a meal. So - we at ice cream. Yum. Bear Claw is always a chocolatey goodness winner if they have it.

Everyone raves about Fat Olives as the place to be in Homer, the place with the best wine list. Well, I did it again. I let my expectation get away from me. The wine list (by the glass) was the same old $12 California reds for $8 a glass. We had salads and split a calzone. Not a bad experience, but keep your expectations in check up here in the great wet north.
