My kids and I have this quarterly ritual. We visit the Pacific Science Center. We find that there is always something to discover and that they update their exhibits frequently, each one more interesting than the previous. Great fun place that's also educational and a nice breather from the malls.

I recently went there with my parents and we enjoyed watching the locks open/close, fill/empty and see the seagulls in action, eating. Be prepared for the stench when you walk over from the locks to the salmon ladder. We did see salmon in one ladder, but never saw one switch from one ladder to the next. The free visitor's center has a small amount of interesting exhibits (the hands-on ones all seemed broken), a small gift shop, and a short film. They offer free, guided tours, but we did not take one. If you park on the Ballard side of the locks you have to walk partially through the Botanical Gardens/park to get to the locks. The park was not crowded and it would be a good spot to have a picnic.
Pros: lots of different things to see (locks, ladder, park, visitor's center)
Cons: not easy for people who have a hard time walking far.

This place still has the power to make me feel like a kid. I don't think the exhibit has changed much over the last few years. Whenever I go, it's just as amazing as the first time to get into some of these airplanes. Great location for company parties and weddings too.

I have been an REI customer for 30 years, and have shopped at sporting goods stores all over the planet.
True, if you are looking for cheap, army-surplus type goods here, you won't find 'em, and true if you are a gearhead looking for only the rarest and most esoteric specialty equipment, you won't find it here.
They do have very good, well-tested equipment, outdoor clothing and supplies. On busy weekends you will have to wait for service, esp. where you need a fit like boots or skis.
The staff is generally friendly and knowlegable and willing to refer you to another store in town if they don't have what you need. Overall, a first-class operation.

I love Pike Place, they have all the fresh seasonal flowers and fruits here! I love the crowdedness of the place and the market feel of it. You can't complain when a bouquet of fresh flowers will only cost you $5-$10 only! You can't beat that! The fruits are a bit pricey compared to your normal grocery store, but it's so fresh and tasty! Very well worth it. Oh, don't forget to visit the seafood section, they have the freshest fish of every season. The only thing is freshness can be pricey, but if you don't mind spending the extra money and the pain of looking for parking, you should definitely get your groceries here.
Since I work in downtown, it's easy for me to go to the market to pick up some produce on my way home! My absolutely favorite place in the Summer!

Seattle Art Museum, located downtown inthe business district, has some amazing works of art to see. Hammering Man, who accents the entrance is only a tease of what's inside. Everything from master painters, to sculptures to native folk art is on display. They have quite a good African section as well. Travelling displays mean that there's always something new to see, so what are you waiting for, come get an eyeful of art!

I would say this toy store is the best in the country, but I'm from Canada, and anytime I get down to Seattle, I HAVE to stop there. It's better than anything I've been too. It has everything and anything a toy store should have. It has model horses, stuffies, board games galore, puzzles, books, awesome gag gifts, dollys, puppets, and anythings else you can thing of. My first trip there was when I was 19!, and I was still like an awestruck child. "Two stories of toys, you have to be kidding?!" This place is paradise for anyone with a young heart and a young mind! Check it out for sure!!!

I have been shopping at Gregg's for years and the selection and service never cease to amaze me. I recently stopped by to purchase a new pair of cycling shoes. The woman who assisted me was extremely helpful and patient. I am very picky with my shoes and she humored my interest in trying on every shoe in the store. Gregg's had multiple performance oriented shoes in my size, but I went with the SIDI's. While there I found some awesome looking jerseys (purchased 2) and the parts guys helped me pick up some new lube. Gregg's is surely bigger than the store located in my neighborhood, but they have earned my business over the years with good service, great selection and friendly staffers.

I was amazed by the design of the EMP, both from the inside and just looking at it from the outside. I'm not much of a music junkie, so I didn't appreciate the exhibits as much as my friends did, but the few things I did understand left me speechless. Admission, like any other famous museum, was a bit pricey, but I think everyone should go inside at least once in their life.
