My family ate at this restaurant today... I ordered the seafood platter w/whole clams, my daughter ordered the fried scallop dinner, and my son ordered the fish & chips. When we sat down and waited for our order we had chosen a booth with an elderly couple across from us. The poor old man had to shout to his wife; she must have been deaf. Then suddenly a young boy from two booths down from us shouted "Dad, ya gonna cut the eyes out first?!" ....so we decided to change to a different section of the restaurant. Did I mention it was a bit warm and the floor was pretty slick w/oil so it was a rather tricky manuver; especially comical to watch the two young girls try to maintain their balance and hold onto the trays of food at the same time. I was just praying to God they wouldn't fall and get hurt. Meal comes after about 15min and my son's food looked fine... mine arrived with clam strips. my daughter was served a dinner with whole clams (no the scallop dinner). She takes ours back and wait... and wait.... and wait. Another 15mins go by and here she comes, slipping her way to the table with a big apology and we are set to eat. Well, every clam I bit into had a crunchy, crunch factor (dang shells). Fries were greasy, and all the fish had an odd flavor. Now I'm not a chef by any means, but my guess is their oil hadn't been changed in quite sometime. So, if you're willing to pay a little over $50 to experience what we did, then I would say "more power to ya" Maybe the fish market attached was fine, but we couldn't wait to get out of there. Pros: free soda refills Cons: clams w/shell pieces, greasy floor, old cooking oil, etc...

Schermerhorn's USED TO BE pretty good when they were located in Northampton...but that was LONG AGO. The best seafood restaurant in western MA was Jack August in Northampton. Just as good (if not better) as the seafood in Maine and on Cape Cod. And even long ago, Jack August seafood was far better than Schermerhorn's...even though Schermerhorn's wasn't too bad then. Hard to explain...but Jack August was THE BEST of any restaurant serving seafood...BY FAR. Pros: NONE Cons: Fish was terrible

Ok, I ordered the seafood platter & the fish was appalling . it's texture was like mud and it tasted nothing like fish.The scallops were fake with a jello feel.My wife ordered the jumbo stuffed shrimp & it was not much better(cold).We also started off with the crab cakes,which was a hard bread disk filled with overly seasoned crab paste.If you have ever been to wilbraham seafoods you will know the diference between good seafood & bad seafood.It looks like a restaurant but, who pays first & seats themselves has the food deliverd to your table.Please do not waste your money on waiting 35 minutes for your food, when there were only 2 other customers. Pros: nothing Cons: Trying to be too much & doing nothing well !!

This is a place that we visit occassionally for fresh seafood. A few months ago we bought swordfish from here. It was excellent, and the service was wonderful . They are open all the time, even late on Sundays. This is a much better choice then going to the supermarket.

Schermerhorns Seafood is a place I like to visit for occasional seafood that is difficult to find elsewhere. Whether you are stopping by to purchase one of their fried seafood entrees at the restaurant or some fresh seafood to take home, it is a treat. It almost takes you back to the seashore as you sit by the ocean water taking in the smells of fried clams. The food is good but maybe not as good as it used to be a few years ago. The staff gives adequate service but nothing you would write home about. They basically do their job to serve you and not anything more to make it that special service. Schermerhorns Seafood is a good place to eat for something different. Claire

Here is a place that could be so great. It is a well established seafood restaurant and fish market. It used to be you could order a lobster dinner, and they would give you PLASTIC UTENSILS. They now give actual METAL FORKS, but charge you $2 for 'using' their lobster cracker. You get your money back if you don't steal it and run home to put it on the fireplace mantle where you display you vast collection of lobster crackers. The food is usually fine, but don't expect to EVER get a smile or thank you from the high schoolers who wait on you begrudgingly.
