My husband and I are connoisseurs of Russian cuisine and have been to the best Russian restaurants in NY, L.A., San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, D.C.. and probably other places I'm forgetting. This is our second favorite Russian restaurant in the U.S. next to the Russian Tea House in Chicago.
While this is not the authentic Russian that I ate while I lived in the former USSR for a couple years, it is an gourmet and French-influenced improvement upon it. It's a rather small menu, but everything is done well. The pelmeni are probably the furthest departure from authenticity, but still very palatable. The dish to order each and every time though is the golubtsy. The pungent, sweet and sour tomato sauce is heaven on a plate.
We have had some poor and some horrible experiences with the vastly understaffed service. If the food was not so wonderful we would have walked out after waiting an hour to have our ORDER TAKEN. The staff ar polite, just too few in number.
My advice is go on weeknight or early on a weekend, and enjoy the golubtsy.

I ordered my staple, Saag Panner, mixed vegetable Pakora, garlic naan and Samosa. I love Saag Paneer, which is spinach and homemade Indian cheese in a creamy sauce. Paneer is sometimes referred to as cottage cheese, but it??????s cubed and not gross. The Panner from Aaoji is always good. Not super hot, but not weak either. The cheese is soft and flavorful. I can taste the garlic and the creamyness of the sauce makes for a perfect combo. Pakora is a fried mixture of veggies battered usually in a chick pea flour. I love to eat it with the mint chutney and the sweet chutney. It??????s sweet, hot and minty all at once. The garlic naan is always good. I normally get the plain naan, but I decided to go all out this time.
If you??????ve never tried Indian food before, go for it. Try something less exciting like Aloo Gobhi, potatoes and cauliflower with herbs and spices. If you like that, you??????ll be hooked.

The Tortilla Factory is an all-around neighborhood kind of place that has been here since the 70's. The food is good - not especially exciting, but always reliably well prepared and tasty. The service is attentive. Even with a large group the service is always personal. Prices are great.
Expect a wait on weekends during the dinner hour.
PROS: Fresh chips and salsa on the table!
CONS:

Visiting the D.C. area, and just so happen to stop by the Herndon area? This bakery is a must see! It's a very small town, down to earth bakery. The owners are almost always there, which is refreshing to see how much they care about their customers. The staff is so nice and helpful. They have samples of everything the sell! The sell scones, muffins, cookies, and all kinds of breads (from the normal white and wheat bread, to the savory breads, such as spinach feta, to the sweet bread... like white chocolate raspberry swirl). Be advised however that they do have a baking schedule, so if they have a certain kind of bread that you like, take home their baking schedule (conveniently located next to the register) so that you know what days they have what. Either way, you can't go wrong! Everything they sell is amazing!

This is the best burger I have ever had. Nothing real special but taste like a homemade not frozen pattie. The fries are fresh cut real potatoes. They are wonderful and the fry portion is huge. My husband and I share a regular size fry and each have more than enough to eat. The price is cheap.

It was delightful surprise. I think the New Yorkers will say the same. It was best sushi I had out side of San Francisco and New York City. Young urban, classic, hip decoration. Service was great, too. I went with eight of my family and relatives and we got several items 'on-the-house' as well. I recommand the special rolls. I think the 'YOKO' was hit hard by theses guy's success. Don't pay attention to jealous competitors whos talent (chef's) falls short whether Japanese or Korean, or Chinese, or French....
Pros: family ok, good parking, friendly
