This is a beautiful upscale hotel with a fantastic view of the gulf. At the end of the day you can lounge in the lobby and get a soothing drink to help you relax. Our room was a little on the small side but this is no surprise since it was built back in 1911. The bed was very comfortable and the Concierge was extremely helpful in helping us figure out what to do while we were there. We had a small problem with our room service order but the manager on duty took care of us as soon as we brought it to his attention. I??????d love to go back soon.

As a native New Yorker onre thing I really miss is the pizza and Gino's is the closest I've found. And thier other dishes are very good as well and the sauce is like homemade being an Italian Amerian and growing in the Bronx I am kind of a little picky when it comes to sauce no can beat my Grandma's. And the Canollies are fabulous.

Fine seafood dining is the best I can say about these folks as it says it all. The mahi-mahi was fresh and grilled to perfection. The halibut was perfectly fried and the accompanying crab meat was succulent and divine. The risotto was my first and everything I had imagined it should be: creamy, flavorful, buttery. The crab-stuffed shrimp and crab cake were indescribably delicious. The textures, flavors, smells, and presentations were pure gourmet, and proof that fine food is good food on Galveston Island.
Pros: I'd eat slop if it had lump crab like that on it.
Cons: Trainee waitresses take a little more patience.

I had dinner with a friend last week. When we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted with happy smiling faces! (This is SO different for Galveston) The restaurant was sparkling clean and the lingering aromas from the open kitchen were mouth watering. I ordered the grilled Flounder with rice and Greek side. It was amazing. The fish was flaky and so flavorful! I ordered a wonderful glass of white wine, with the help of the server who was very educated regarding wine... (Total Plus!!) My friend had the Greek lasagna (Pastichio) which tasted amazing. The noodles were cooked properly and the sauce was perfect! We ordered the White Chocolate & Caramel Bread Pudding for dessert... Let me just say that I am ordering a pan of this bread pudding for my family for Christmas... It was so buttery and yummy! The staff was great and the service was right on. The manager checked on us during our meal, which was a nice personal touch. This is my new hot spot for an awesome meal and fabulous view!
Pros: Best seafood with Harbor view!
Cons: Make sure to get your parking ticket validated before leavin

We were very impressed with this place. For the price you can't beat it. I think it made it that much more enjoyable knowing we were getting a great deal. We ate for under $8 each and had so much food we could barely eat 1/2 of it. It was delicious too. Not sure how it is now, this was years ago and I think they have since remodeled. We'll be trying it again soon!

I visited this place on a whim with some friends who had been there before. They liked it enough to return, and after eating there I can say I liked it enough to return, just haven't had the chance yet. They serve up cajun seafood staples, but when I was there the crawfish poboy was off the menu. Portions are pretty good for the price, meaning you won't leave hungry, which is always important at casual joints like this.
Bottom Line: Good food for the price. Probably better for lunch than dinner.

This hotel is excellent and offers great views. Just like most of the hotels in Galveston, the hotel sits across the street from the ocean but it has to because of the seawall. If you go further down to other parts of Galveston you can find beachfront places but many are condos to rent. This is a great little but nice place for families on a budget to go. It is very very nice on both the inside and on the outside. It is basically a complex of several buildings and many have ocean views. They even have 2 bedroom suites complete with 2 balconies. My family has been here several times and it was great. Outside they have 2 pools, a playground, and places to grill and bbq

I love this store! I'm new to Galveston and since I've been here have been to the strand several times. I didn't really care for the strand, it seemed to only have gift shops with useless things. Col. Bubbies was an amazing store though.
I'm 18, and female. I dont have much use for army supplies, but when I went in and saw their bags (shoulder bags, backpacks, etc) I had to have one. I bought a biohazard shoulder bag for fairly cheap, and have already started decorating it with various military pins, patches, and name tags that they sell for literally a dollar a piece.. It's a fantastic store, for anyone of any age with a creative mind and a love of unusual and out of the ordinary things!
Even if you don't need army supplies, you'll find something you like. They have some really awesome t-shirts, pants, and of course bags. As well some really cool trinkets, like the pins, patches, and tags I mentioned earlier as well as buttons, dog tags, and I'm sure a lot more.
If you've never been to an army surplus store, you should definately check this one out the next time you visit the strand. You'll certainly find something there that catches your eye!

Galveston Veterinary Clinic on 61st Street has recently expanded, and offers better service than ever. They have always been superlative, and now there is more space in the reception and waiting area, a better arrangement in the treatment rooms, and a larger kennel/boarding facility.
We have taken our dogs and cat to GVC since we first moved to the Island. They were so very helpful and sensitive when one of our dogs died six months after we arrived. Since then, we've had another emergency call -- right before closing time -- when another dog got sick after coming home from the groomer one afternoon. GVC stood by us and was always there to help.
