This house is not one of the more "awe-inspiring" architectual delights of Galveston. In fact, I found it to be hardly a delight. They don't seem to limit the sizes of the tours, and some of the rooms and hallways were very crowded. There are areas of some of the rooms, such as the dining room, where you weren't supposed to walk, but were not marked by signage or any kind of barricade. Instead, you got an unpleasant "Ma'am please don't walk on those carpets," "Sir, please don't step on that floor." That they even had parts of rooms blocked off at all, makes this one of my least favorite tours in Galveston. This home really doesn't offer much. It's not particularly beautiful on the inside, nor is the history very interesting.
If you want to see a beautiful house, with grand architectual qualities, detailed woodwork, fine art, friendly and knowledgeable tour guides, I highly reccomend Bishop's Palace. If you are looking for a real mansion tour, that is where you should be. You are free to walk around and study the details of the house because there are no barricades keeping you away from it.
I'd say skip Moody Mansion all together, and go to Bishop's Palace.

In Galveston there are many historical homes and businesses to tour, and one of the nicest is the Moody Mansion. The tour is $6 for adults, and reduced for kids. The tour guide shows many of the rooms and tells about Mr. Moody, and how he and Moody Gardens came about. Many of the rooms on tour are extravagant, being restored. It is really a sneak peak into the history of Galveston's rich past.

I reallly enjoyed the Moody Mansion Museum. I cannot say when was the last time I enjoyed so much history before. They have so much to tell. I am so glad I took the family there. I would love to go again and see what I did not get to see. I will make sure I go back real soon. The people there are so nice and friendly.
