Wow, this is a great place to visit! Whether local or tourist, everyone should give this seaport museum a go. This is where the new official Tall Ship of Texas is located, the Elissa. It's a beautiful piece of sailing history, and you can see it up close and personal. Things can get a little hectic if you are trying to visit on days that the cruise ships are boarding, so either come early or choose a different day.
Bottom Line: Do it, you'll love it.

More
Galveston doesn't have any professional sports, unless you head north about 55 miles. So what's left for the sports fan? How about some high school sports. Ball High can be fun during football and basketball season. There are some heated rivalries (i.e. La Marque) that offer a good show for a cheap price ($1-2). If you don't mind sitting with some rowdy high schoolers, go for it, it's a lot of fun.
Bottom Line: There's nothing quite like watching hungry high school football players giving it all they've got to win a rivalry.

This trip will be unforgettable always to me. This was a beautiful building and the tour was great. The reason it will be unforgettable though is because my daughter was under 1yr old and had just learned how to squeal. The whole tour she was squealing loudly to hear the echo. We were laughing so hard. I felt bad for her interrupting the tour, but it was so adorable. The tour is great though.

Think of this like a fair, with many people dressed to perform in Oliver Twist. Really it was really a lot of fun. Some of the costumes were amazing! Of course, a lot of people played fast and loose with the period, but it was really entertaining. The Queen's parade in the afternoon was really entertaining, and there were more bag pipe players there than I thought there would be in all of Texas. Great shopping, great food. Take the trolley in though, because parking is tight.

We liked this the first time we went, but then it changed into a putt putt course. It was really cheesy. All the holes were in this one room and I felt bad for the people that actually paid to get into it. Then we went back and last time it was something different again. I wasn't overly impressed with the discovery pyramid. IF you are paying for attractions seperately, skip this one.

More
Are you a fan of racket sports? Well, your only real choice is to join out at the Health and Racket club. There are leagues to join, clinics and private lessons to take part in, and a nice workout facility located inside. The courts are in good shape, and there's always someone around to hit with (as long as the temp is <100). You always have a great time, regardless of skill level.
Bottom Line: If you want to play racket sports, and not drive to Houston, this is the place to go.

Considering it's the only theater on the island, it's not bad. If you don't mind driving 15 miles north, you can go to the Mall of the Mainland theater which is much newer and cleaner. Regarding this theater, the screens are small, the chairs are uncomfortable and the theaters are usually dirty. However, there's hardly every a large crowd, even on opening night, and the prices are decent by today's standard.
Bottom Line: If you want to see a movie right away without driving off the island, this is your only choice.

Does anyone come to Galveston to play golf? Doubt it. However, if you're visiting, or if you live here, this municipal course is great! Set off of Stewart road near the airport, there are some well designed holes with water that really make you feel like you're at the beach. The front nine is not quite as challenging, or as interesting to look at, as the back nine, so remember that if you're on a time crunch. Otherwise, enjoy the scenery and try to keep it under 90.
Bottom Line: Great place to hit a few with some buddies. They offer a driving range and putting green to practice on as well.

If you love musical theater, this will not disappoint! I was surprised by the talent in these musicals. Students and aspiring actors are cast from around the country to fill the roles in these shows. Great voices, great dancing, great acting! They have it all. The shows have moved into their new home at Moody Gardens, which takes away from the outdoor theater experience, but still-awesome shows await all theater lovers and novices alike.
