Kit's Wood Duck Pond is a wonderful place to enjoy a lovely weekend in the San Juan Island. Away from the pier, you get to enjoy the quiet but beautiful 25 acre of private land all to yourselves. Even though the property is so big, the whole garden is immaculately kept with a beautiful pond and a gazebo. Wood Duck Pond is usually rented out for weddings or outdoor events, but my friends and I usually just rent it for the weekend just for a little R&R. And I saw my first shooting stars while we visited there three years ago, so this place will always be special to me.

We stayed here when we accidentally got stuck on the island. Someone told us that place had rooms for about $30/night. The next cheapest available room was $190/night suite at another hotel, so we decided to give Orca Inn a try. The building looked a little funny outside, almost like a big trailer. The front desk was a tiny 5x5 room. They did open for us (it as around 10pm), and told us that while they don't have any $30 rooms, they would give us a room for about $50. It was large, with two double beds and two showers/bathrooms. It was big enough for me, my wife, and my mother-in-law to stay there (although the mother-in-law hated it). I thought it was basic but clean and well-maintained. The walls had wood panelling. The bathrooms were basic but clean. I am not sure I would've booked that place in advance (unless I was really on a budget), but I would stay again if I couldn't find anything else for comparable price. We didn't have any problems during our stay.
PROS: Very inexpensive, available even on a busy weekend, clean
CONS: Very basic, almost a trailer looking building, and a very basic room.

So this isn't mama Italiano's restaurant. But it's still a good place to get a pitcher and grub for a decent price. They are also good for families or groups. Stay away from the pizza, it's not at all their specialty.
Sounds strange, but try to order anything but the Italian, like a nice juicy burger.

Gloria's Barn is located in the middle of San Juan Island. It is worth checking out if you need furniture or are trying to get rid of furniture. They have a good selection of used household furniture for sale at fair prices. I have sold a couple of things through Gloria's and they handled the sales/comission process fairly and efficiently.

The Whale Museum in Friday Harbor on Orcas Island is a perfect first stop on your sightseeing tour. Inside a historic building lies a resource of unlimited information about whales and orcas. We enjoyed the displays and information gathering before we went out to see the actual whales themselves. After gaining an understanding of these magnificent creatures and how they are studied, we watched them in real time off the island coastline and had a much better appreciation for how to observe these intelligent marine mammals.

The Flying Burrito is located a few blocks from the main part of Friday Harbor, near the airport. It is a casual restaurant with a nice variety of lunch and dinner items. Every item I've tried is good, but their OCB (Oregon Country Beef) burger and pork tacos are not to be missed.
If you are in a hurry you can also call your order in ahead of time and pick it up from their "fly through" window.
Their hours vary and are a little funky, so call ahead.

I am not a picky person, let me just make that clear first. I have never been compelled to actually write a complaint about anything before in my life. My boyfriend wanted to give me a sweet surprise by planning a nice weekend getaway to the San Juan Islands. He went so far as to reserve "one of the nicest rooms", the "romance package...(such a joke)", and booking side by side swedish massages. We had booked the "water room", and arrived to find we were staying in a disgusting dirt brown colored, closet-sized excuse of a room with a "view" of a tractor field and what I think might have been some sort of meth lab. Our "romance" package consisted of DEAD flowers, 5 bucks worth of chocolates, and a cheap bottle of champagne. Oh, and we were charged $160 for that little extra. We never had a time specified for our massage appointments, and upon arrival, they informed us that it would begin at 8:00am... Ummm no thanks?! We called the manager and said that the time wouldn't work for us, and that we would like to cancel the appt. Unfortunately, that wasn't going to happen. The manager let us know that "Unless they can sell the appt to some one else, we are going to be stuck with the bill regardless if we get the service or not." We eventually had to go to the front desk and verify that we wouldn't be charged for the service, and the lovely manager said, "Fine, I guess we'll eat the bill.." Gee, thanks... Over $600 bucks for one night at this hole... I wouldn't reccomend this establishment to my worst enemy. Absolutely HORRIBLE experience.
Pros: NOTHING
Cons: False advertising, horrible customer service, extremely overpriced, terrible experience overall.
