While the serpentine hall to the rooms is odd, once we arrived at our room we were extremely pleased. The bed and down comforters may be the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on! The kitchenette and small living room and open design made for a very comfortable stay. A short drive into Friday Harbor, a little too far to walk there and back on foot.

We stayed at one of the log cabins at Lakedale Resort in Friday Harbor, and we were happy with the cozy feel of the log cabins. With the cabin rental, they provide one hour of free row boat service so you could fish in the lake, but none of us caught any. There is also a big hot tub in the common area, which was broken the weekend we went. Its a nice campground, but I prefer Wood Duck Ponds for the big space and privacy.

This hotel is situated directly across the street from the marina in Fisherman Bay. It's got great views. The prices are reasonable, too. This is the perfect spot to watch the 4th of July spectacular from. I've never seen a bigger fireworks show - not even in Seattle.

I'm having my wedding here in June and received nothing but great service. Not only is the atmosphere here spectacular, but the people, restaurants, staff, everything, is the very best Ive ever seen. Definitely an A+!

I have traveled a lot across the US. Of all the places I have been between New York city and San Diego and from Seattle to Jacksonville, FL no lodging facility has been better than Hillside House Bed and Breakfast.

While not as truly amazing as the Inn at Langley (they belong to the same group), this is a good place for a getaway. Its on San Juan Island, so has all the charm, but it is really a more urban setting. It is very compact and has a decent restaurant, but what sets it apart are the great rooms and the incredible views. Terrific and comfortable is what I'd call it.
The restaurant is good, but not great, but it is one of the most comfortable places to stay., The best thing is that you can take the passenger ferry and not have to take a car. On the really busy weekends in the summer that's a huge plus where the car wait can be hours.
It really is a 3 1/2 stars as a retreat, but let's give it 4.

We stayed here when we accidentally got stuck on the island. Someone told us that place had rooms for about $30/night. The next cheapest available room was $190/night suite at another hotel, so we decided to give Orca Inn a try. The building looked a little funny outside, almost like a big trailer. The front desk was a tiny 5x5 room. They did open for us (it as around 10pm), and told us that while they don't have any $30 rooms, they would give us a room for about $50. It was large, with two double beds and two showers/bathrooms. It was big enough for me, my wife, and my mother-in-law to stay there (although the mother-in-law hated it). I thought it was basic but clean and well-maintained. The walls had wood panelling. The bathrooms were basic but clean. I am not sure I would've booked that place in advance (unless I was really on a budget), but I would stay again if I couldn't find anything else for comparable price. We didn't have any problems during our stay.
PROS: Very inexpensive, available even on a busy weekend, clean
CONS: Very basic, almost a trailer looking building, and a very basic room.

Roche Harbor ( http://www.rocheharbor.com/index.html ) is a peaceful resort in the tip of the San Juan Islands. Only accessible by boat or plane, Roche Harbor offers privacy and escape from the hub-bubs of city life. The main hotel, Hotel de Caro, was a favorite destination for President Roosevelt, 100 years ago. The area used to be a lime & cement mining lot, but has since become a beautiful place for weddings and weekend get-aways. Depending on the time of year, it is very quiet in the island, you can go bike riding, kayaking, whale watching or just walk the grounds. There is one chapel in the island. and the minister uses a biplane between the islands for mass! This is a link to the island webcam ( http://www.islandcam.com/roche.html ).
