I first went here after a horrible hack-job haircut from one of those cheap places that doesn't even wash your hair. I left there before they even finished and went home to cry. When I finally came in to Visual Image my stylist was very understanding, I told her how I was traumatized and wanted my hair to be longer in layers and the other place cut off too much hair. She spent a lot of time with me talking about my hair and consulting with her seniors. By the time I left my hair actually looked *longer!* than when I came in because it was properly balanced. I was thrilled. (one time she went out of her way to help me get a hair straightener for my daughter with her discount as a hair stylist, and continues to send me text msg. on my phone every holiday).I continue to go here 5 years later. I have a new stylist now but she is also very good, I never feel like they are being pushy. One time I came in with a very slight black eye because a baseball hit me in the cheekbone at one of my son's practices, my stylist asked all sorts of questions about what happened to your eye? When? Who threw the ball, etc. I had heard that stylists were trained to spot domestic abuse but this was my first encounter with that. I feel like they really care. Some of the stylists don't pay as much attention, you need to keep an eye on them and just keep trying new ones until you find a good one. I am seeing Victoria now. I feel like the price is worth the peace of mind of knowing I won't get another hack-job at one of those cheap places. I have taken both my kids there also and they left happy as well. I get cut & style originally, now get color as well, and have had waxing done. I'm about to make an appt. for a facial today.I would recommend them, if they seem too expensive, go less often, like every 8 weeks, or don't buy their products. When they ask if I need products, I say no I already hav

The first time I went to this place I liked it because it seemed a little bit upscale and they offered drinks etc. But the sylist who was doing my hair kept suggesting things. At first i thought it was nice but then she became pushy. I wanted short bangs, she wanted long, etc. Someone else also mentioned this that they make you feel low and dumb like you dont take care of your hair or yourself. They try to sell thier stupid products. But overall my hair was OK Anyway, the second time I went again only b/c I was going some place last minute and needed to get a haircut. It cost me $150 dollars for an overall general color and a hair cut that I didnt like. The B* chopped off my hair. I told her I wanted no more than two inches and she took off like 6 inches! It went from waist down to just below shoulders. She goes oHHH i think I should chop more off....I think you should get really short layers..NO i want long layers..>EVERYTHING she knew how to do she wanted to do that. If she couldnt dye my hair the right color and cut it the way I want she should have just said that she is a a dumb b*! I am really upset b/c it took me two years to grow my hair long and the B* chopped it off. THEY ARE PUSHYYYYYYYY!!

I like Visual image because it has somewhat of a look/feel of an upscale salon. The issue is that if you find a stylist you really like, his/her rates will increase as they advance I HATE this system but am basically too lazy to find another place. Any recommendations for economic/quality hair care in the east bay area?

My stylist chatted with other stylists and clients, but didn't really talk to me and so gave me a cut that I don't know how to work with and that doesn't work for me. When she did bother to talk to me, she was insulting and rude. (I saw her twice, so I don't think it was just a bad day.)
If that is representative of their service I don't want to go there again. I wrote a letter to the salon and left a voice mail with the manager letting them know it was due to that service that I am no longer a client. Three weeks later and no response.
If Visual Image wants to grow its business, they should learn how to cultivate clients. Don't waste your time or your money.
Pros: Good ambiance, the reception staff are very helpful and give a great first impression
Cons: The management staff does not seem to monitor the stylists that represent the company.

This would have been my third time at Visual Image. I quite like the place and usually go to Visual Image for my hair cuts. I requested an appointment with the stylist Sanjay (which was a week away) and passed up appointment with other stylists which was available within 2 days. On the day of the appointment, I was told Sanjay was sick and that I could reschedule with someone else. Since I had waited that long to get Sanjay to cut my hair, I thought I'd wait for his next appointment. I got a Friday at 6pm. I took it. On Friday, I was stuck badly in traffic and called to inform them that I would be about 10-15 minutes late. But traffic was really really bad and I got there 25 minutes late. But when I reached Visual Image, they said they couldn't take my appointment.
I told them I drove a long distance, but there was nothing the stylist was willing to do. The stylist was not willing to make up for the fact that he canceled an appointment because he called sick. I told them that they should have told us on the phone right then that cannot take the appointment if I was more than 15 minutes late. I would have turned back then rather than drive all the way to find out that they were not taking my appointment. They had nothing to say to that. They did nothing to accomodate a customer who quickly wrapped up her work Friday evening and drove in crazy traffic to get there. The fact that I waited that long to get my hair cut from Sanjay didn't seem to matter. I was bummed. Sanjay saw me at the reception, but didn't seem to bother. Overall, the experience left me disappointed.

After 5 years as a client of the creative director I fired my stylist. Let me tell you why:
-the owner and stylists have become very greedy.
-the prices DO NOT warrant the quality of services.
-they overbook themselves so services that should take 90 mins of undivided attention take 3 hours instead this means 1/2 the time you are waiting.
- they think nothing of rescheduling you but are too busy and important to return customer telephone calls.
-they do not care about their customers it has been said by management and the owner that they do not worry about unhappy customers because there are many more lining up at the door for services.

I've been searching all over to find a stylist I would return to again & again. I heard about Visual Image from a friend & she recommended her stylist Elyssa. I have to drive from San Ramon to Fremont to go to her, so it's quite a distance just for a cut. I loved my hair after I went to her the first time. When my next cut was due, I wasn't sure I wanted to drive the distance again. But after I went a 2nd time, I was so glad I went to her again. My hair in straight & fine & most stylists don't know what to do with this kind of hair. The last lady I went to at StyleX (San Ramon) told me not much can be done with it, it's just the way it is. But Elyssa seems to know just what to do to make my hair feel lighter & fuller by creating lots of layers. She's very meticulous too, even after she's already styled it, she rechecks the hair to make sure it's even & will trim off anything stray.
Pros: Professional well trained stylists & staff, modern & clean
Cons: Far for me, a bit pricey, otherwise none

I went to Visual Image for about a year and a half. I was a loyal customer who went every 5-6 weeks for a color touch-up. I was actually pretty satisfied for the first 6 months. But then my regular stylist started showing up late to my appointments, was rude, and began to dye my hair a very brassy orange color. (Im a blonde). She left the salon and I was on the search for another hair stylist. Right around this time, that is when the Salon changed. I dont know if management changed or what, but the quality of hair stylists greatly diminished. My hair went from a very healthy quality to very damaged, thin, and poor color concentration. My hair had 3 color gradiants, and it looked terrible. And when I would tell the stylist and her manager they would make me feel as if I was crazy and then they would mock me or roll their eyes at my comments. The stylists became very sloppy as they got hair dye in my eye, mouth, nose, all over my neck causing a bad dermatitis as well as ruining every top I brought in to the salon. They would give you the third degree on what kind of products you put in your hair, making you feel stupid if you didnt buy their Bumble and Bumble line, which is a terribly drying, damaging line. When I told them that its not about the shampoos, its how rough they are with the hair and the diet and lifestyle of the individual, they would give a sarcastic come-back. They would over-book appointments and make you wait around 15 min to get seen, and Heaven forbid you were 2 seconds late for your appointment as they would give you a lecture on how rude it is to be late and as a result they cant give you the full spa experience. Visual Image, when I first started going there, was actually a great salon. Now it has turned into a place of ineptness, bumbling fools, and stlylists who damage your hair. So if you want to get your hair severely damage
