My husband and I went there twice. The first time we went, person at the counter literally stared at us. So we think nothing of it. The second time same type of thing...and on top of that they put our burgers in plastic bread bag. Don't get me wrong...I've been to plenty of burger joints but just seeing my food in a bread bag totally destroyed my appetite. It's like someone putting your food in a Shop Rite bag. The crappy service wasn't worth the culinary experience. Ive had better burgers.

I have been going to Charlies since before the first restaurant burned down at Baltimore Pike. I was just a toddler then. Been coming back ever since. The burgers are kinda thin but there's just something about the combination of seasoning and fresh beef and the way they slightly toast the buns. The cheese just melts on the burger. I'm actually going there today for lunch. Can't wait! Their prices do keep me from coming back more often, and because it's a little far from where I live now, but it's a good treat every once in a while. White Castle couldn't hold a flame to this place. I once read someone talk trash about how they use the empty bun plastic bags for take out orders. I thought that was a great way to recycle and cut down on costs. Final thoughts - Amazing burgers, stellar shakes - bit pricey.....worth it once in a while. Pros: Amazing burgers!!!!! The place is a true hamburger shack which was cool, but their burgers are as small as White Castle but cost three times as much, and White Castle burgers taste better. I would have rated them 1 star if the burgers weren't unique. But in this case, unique was bad. I would NOT recommend Charlie's burgers. The burgers are delicious, and I believe they are hand formed right there so you know you aren't getting some frozen patty. They go great with a milkshake. Its worth checking out for a fast fun and tasty lunch. Pros: The Burgers! Cons: Seating can be sparse when its busy.

The place is very small but service is always fast. Sorry to any of those who think you are going to get a fine dining experience because you are not. I dont understand how people think the burgers are too small when they only cost a couple of dollars, what do you expect? most people won't write reviews that are time-consuming if they don't actually like the food so due to the fact that pretty much every reasonable person wrote a good review, its safe to say it's a good place to get burgers. Pros: good food, quick service, inexpensive Cons: NONE!!

I've been going to Charlie's since I was a little girl. It's not meant to impress by being a large, fancy restaurant and for those of you who don't get that, maybe you are better off going to some chain restaurant instead. Charlie's has been successful for so long due to the fresh ingredients and fast service. The burgers aren't the biggest but they are tasty!!! You can't go wrong with a black and white shake and a Charlie's Special. I love how they still use the same plastic cups from long ago, too. Nothing's been updated and every time I go there, it brings me back to my childhood. You'd be a fool not to try this place. And if you can't appreciate the food rather than the atmosphere, then you can't call yourself and foodie and shouldn't be criticizing any restaurant on this site until you understand what makes good food just that. I do NOT understand why everyone loves Charlie's so much. Maybe it's just one of those things where one person says it's a great place, then another person agrees and it's just something that becomes accepted by everyone just because "someone" said it was the greatest place ever. I've seen this happen with other restaurants, movies, etc. Let me just tell you about my experience. My boyfriend and I walked in and thought it was a joke how small and weird the place was. We felt like everyone was staring at us. It really was a shack. It was our first time there and we didn't know what they had, and what was good to order, so we ordered four cheeseburgers and a milkshake to go (because we felt really awkward sitting in there). So when we got home to eat them, they were smaller than a McDonald's hamburger!!! It was so ridiculous. I was not full. They were not worth our money. Nifty Fifties is much better and I would venture across the street to go there rather than Charlies again. Oh, and Nifty Fifties milkshakes are a MILLION times better. I don't really know what else to say except that people need to stop following the crowd and saying they love it just because everyone else does, when really, you know deep down, that place is not all it's cracked up to be. Pros: You get your food pretty fast Cons: Everything else!!!!
