I've come here since elementary school, when my entire family would sit at the sushi bar and chat with the sushi chef, learning how to order in Japanese and more about the sushi culture. I went away to college on the other side of the country and hadn't been in 8 years, but I just revisited tonight to find the same chef and the same pleasant conversation, friendly service, and some of the best sushi I've ever tasted. I plan on visiting Koharu for years to come!

This is yet another attempt to find a good sushi south of Seattle. Let me say, there was very VERY small menu for sushi. The rice was soggy, old like and the seaweed was - well it made me gag. Not slimy per se, something. The rolls fell apart while trying to eat it. This is one place we definitely will not be back to, for anything. The tempura wasn't that great either.
But, the atmosphere was cute. Very Japanese. The wait staff, women, were dressed in their Japanese clothes down to the flip flops and socks.

I first went to Koharu with my uncle 9 years ago right before I went to Japan for the firt time, and I've remembered it ever since, as it was the most authentic I'd had at that point. More recently after a couple unsatisfying attempts to find a good Japanese restaurant in Seattle I went back and was still impressed by the quality of the dinner I had there. For Seattle residents it's unfortunate that you have to go all the way down to Federal Way with it's million shopping chains, but worth checking out if you're passing through the area.
