Mikuni is not a traditional sushi restaurant. Mikuni is the definition of ?California Sushi? and is famous for their superb sushi rolls. People interested in conventional nigiri may be satisfied with Mikuni?s excellent fresh fish but a large part of what separates Mikuni from everything else is the quality of their sauces and the balanced combination of texture and taste in nearly every single roll on their menu. Some of the less than stellar reviews for this restaurant may have come from people approaching it like a normal sushi-ya but that truly does not do this gem of a restaurant justice. Abandon any snobby elitist sushi preconceptions and appreciate Mikuni for its amazingly delicious and extremely well crafted rolls. With nearly 100 rolls available at three convenient locations Mikuni is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant in Sacramento.
P.S. My favorite rolls are the Spicy Johnny, Train Wreck, and Carmen. Also the Puff Daddy, BBQ White Tuna, and Citrus Blossom are amazing non-roll options.

I've been to Mikuni twice now and for Sacramento, it's good sushi. The fish is fresh and tasty and they have had all the types I like such as Hamachi "Toro" Sashimi. I tend to prefer sashimi and nigiri sushi and tend to stay away from the rolls, so I can't comment on on Mikuni's rolls. As seems to be the growing trend in America, Mikuni does not offer an oshibori (hot towel) which is traditional in Japan to clean ones hands. Rather they give out an oversized moist towelette like you find at KFC. Then again, Mikuni doesn't portray itself as a traditional sushi place and I wasn't expecting it. If there is a good traditional sushi house in Sac, I have yet to find it. While the fish I've had at Mikuni has been very good, it has been overshadowed by the poor service at the Fair Oaks location. On my first lunch time visit, it was just inattentive service at the sushi bar. My second visit was far worse with the sushi chef being down right rude to my party and myself. When I weigh the quality of the food against the rude service and hefty prices, I doubt I will return. I'll just keep travelling to the Bay Area every few months to get my sushi fix.
Pros: Fresh Fish, Good Sushi Selection.
Cons: Inattentive and rude sushi chefs

Mikuni is okay. It's definitely not my favorite. The rolls are slightly better than average and it's super expensive and it's like wal-mart for sushi, so I can't stand by that. I boycott it...... More
Mikuni is okay. It's definitely not my favorite. The rolls are slightly better than average and it's super expensive and it's like wal-mart for sushi, so I can't stand by that. I boycott it... unless someone else is buying!
Pros: ummm, it's popular.
Cons: overpriced and not interesting, food is so-so.

The food here is just so tasty! I always order a pepperfin (fresh raw albacore tuna with a light brown sauce) and a Sa salad. They have specials from the sushi bar that I cant seem to find anywhere else, like a black and white (I wont even share this with my husband!)The servers are always nice and even though they appear to be almost over-whelmed with the amount of customers,we can see they are really doing their best for every table.I can happily tell you this is my favorite japanese restaurant.
Pros: food, friendly staff, really good food
Cons: long wait, crowded, small waiting area

I can't say enough good things about Mikuni's. I've been to the Roseville and Elk Grove locations, and both have consistently great sushi in a fun environment. I never liked sushi until I ate at Mikuni's. What sets their sushi apart is the sauces - they are delicious! Look for the (S) after the name of the roll on the menu. The tables are rather close together in the Roseville location, but much more spacious in Elk Grove.
PROS: World Class Sushi
CONS: Can get crowded
