Best

This gym is great for those who like an independent workout (lots of weight and cardio equipment), and those who like classes (almost all of which are included in dues, the except...

trainers. 9/23/2010

Good: rates and equipment. classes are great.. Bad: the trainers are a bit creepy. they stand and stare at members while looking at them with loathing and contempt. they seem to get their collective cues from one trainer who of all things is ironically a psyd.. Improvements: mgmt overseeing trainers.. more

agree with NPD review but 2/10/2010

the trainer was not seeking but DEMANDING folks respond to him. very strange and scary to observe. more

NPD 1/22/2010

my trainer was so busy seeking the attention of other members of the club that he left me standing in the lurch and that was after senseless and rapid transitioning through different sets. Trainer definitely has a NPD. It was all about him and not me. Nuts. more

health services 1/6/2010

I think that place is operated by crazy people. trainer bios may READ like they are pros but to seem them in form is to witness an SNL parody. more

Mgmt intervention 10/9/2009

Mgmt needs to intervene and supervise the behavior of the trainers especially during the late afternoon and evening hours. The trainers behave like adolescent punks with impunity toward clients. I am tired of observing it and over hearing it. more

mgmt intervention 10/8/2009

I think mgmt needs to make their presence known somehow because the trainers behave like unsupervised children. more

I like this gym 7/14/2009

I like this gym. They have classes all throughout the day and evening, beginning at 6am. It does get busy sometimes, but I have never had to wait for equipment. I read the post about the trainer and her boyfriend. Who are they? (use initials) I want to be sure I avoid them! more

agree with training experience 6/2/2009

i like what the previous reviewer mentioned about the trainers at EAC. they seem really distracted and rushing around to the point of being rude. i had some additional questions to ask TM my trainer about dietary supplements. i had to say "wait hold on" where should i get the vitamins. still, she kept running off in another direction. i really felt discarded. i practically yelled my question across the gym and continued the conversation that way. she made feel like i was bothering her. more

trainers are off kilter 6/1/2009

had a very unprofessional session by a trainer at EAC. This woman who is supposed to understand marathon training was very distracted by other members and her trainer boyfriend. i did not pay a big chunk of my hard earned money to watch her paranoia reactions to her trainer boyfriend. I felt like she was totally misguided in her attempts to train me. she kept forgetting what she was saying and the experience left me uninspired. more

A solid gym 1/14/2006

EAC is a great gym, with huge student discounts. They recently got a lot of new equipment, and as a general rule all areas are very clean and well ventilated. I frequently go to spin classes, which are hit or miss depending on the instructor. They will give you a free guest pass if you say you're considering becoming a member. more

Great Gym in Evanston 8/12/2005

If you live in Evanston and you belong to a gym, it's probably the Evanston Athletic Club or the YMCA. The EAC really is a nice choice though. They've got your typical gym equipment, and it's all in good condition and fairly up-to-date. They also have steam rooms and saunas, a pool, and free classes open to members. What's a little more unique about this fitness center is that it has an indoor rock climbing wall. Pretty neat! I like it because it's conveniently located, isn't full of scary jocks, and yet has all the equipment and facilities you need to keep in shape or bulk up. more

Very professional, excellent for variety seeker 8/4/2005

Evanston Athletic Club is a great place to workout or attend various classes. It is very clean and nice and offers lots of oppurtunities for people with different tastes. For a flat fee you can choose among many many different types of classes. I went there for Yoga and group classes and was very happy with the facilities and the instructors. They have good specials for students also. Worth a try if you live in the neighborhood. more

Great neighborhood club with lots extras 7/27/2005

Great atmosphere and great amenities at this neighborhood health club. Warehouse-like/industrial decor funky, cozy, and appealing. Equipment is state-of-the-art, most cardio machines have individual television monitors to keep you entertained. Indoor pool with lessons for tots, climbing wall, variety of aerobics classes (even many "new-age" ones), and massage services are offered in addition to standard weight-training and cardio equipment on three levels. Friendly staff. Parking lot nearby and GNC store right in the lobby. more
