I've worked on this side of town for 15 years but only "discovered" this hidden gem over the last few. My dad was a total BBQ fanatic, and I often think he's sitting on my shoulder when I bite into a meltingly delish mouthful of pulled pork, smothered in the restaurant's Bullwacker sauce! Hole in the Wall is located on Eugene's fast growing West 11th Avenue. Hidden behind their own catering trucks and a billboard, parking is sometimes a struggle. Inside the knotty pine/ branding iron/Western motif is perfect. Nostalgic signs and dozens of letters from satisfied customers line the walls. Lunch and dinner hours can be busy, and lines sometimes stretch to the door. There is limited outdoor dining, but lots of seating inside. Beef brisket, hot links, smoked turkey breast or ham or chicken, and Saint Louis-style ribs are all on the menu as sandwiches, dinners and build-it-your-way meals. Sides include sweet corn muffins, coleslaw, potato salad, green salad, BBQ beans, french fries and Texas potatoes. Looking for chili? It's there! And there are always specials during the week -- smoked meatloaf, burgers and other meaty treats. If they have 'em, don't miss out on the zesty green beans (usually Tuesdays) and the crisp sweet potato fries (usually Thursdays.) Hole in the Wall offers catering services and to-go orders. Servings are filling, but be sure to get plenty of the sauce (because you may want more...) Service is super friendly, and once you start going they always remember what you like to order! They serve wine and beer, as well as bottomless iced tea and soft drinks -- including strawberry lemonade. Never had room for the cobbler, but peaches or blackberries and vanilla ice cream sounds delicious -- and I have no doubt they'd be exactly as tasty as they sound! Brownie sundae anyone? Or apple crisp? Depending on what you order, a meal will put you back $10 - $20 without the tip. Other than the parking, though, you'll have nothing to complain about.
