The Bijou is a great place to see independent films that are not seen in large movie theaters. It is a converted church so the architecture is amazing and creates a somewhat spiritual ambience. The movies are cheap at night, only $3. They often showcase cartoons and film fest shorts which you can never see at mainstream movie houses. The Bijou is a definite must when travelling to Eugene.

The Bijou is going to show you movies that you won't find anywhere else in Eugene. It's also going to show movies that everyone is talking about. And then, they're going to show movies that are pretty mainstream, too -- even though it is billed as an "art cinema".
Located near the UofO on 13th Avenue, the Bijou Cinemas are inside a "Spanish-style" building that I believe was once a funeral home. It's a very interesting place -- and pulls in crowds for many showings. So go early and get your ticket. I think they have a movie pass book that can save you money, so ask about that when you buy.
The space is available to rent for parties or meetings. They have a snack bar with some offbeat snack items, along with your usual candy and popcorn.
International films, Sundance-type films and documentaries are usually on the show list. At the late night movies right now they are showing "Animal House" with John Belushi -- a hoot, since that film was shot in Eugene, some of it right up the street from the Bijou's location.

(It is a little eery watching a movie in the sanctuary, but it is part of the experience). The staff are all very nice and look like they want to be there (as opposed to most theaters).

This theater is housed in a great building which also gives it a unique feeling. They sell many kinds of snacks including some natural choices.

The Bijou a small church turned movie theatre. It shows independent and foreign films ... stuff that wouldn't be shown in a mainstream threatre essentially.
If you're an avid movie-goer and a fairly strong film buff/critic, then I highly recommend that you try your hand at the Bijou. Prices are reasonable and the movie selection is always solid. Just keep in mind that the environment may not be of the highest caliber, but if you're a true movie buff, these things should hardly matter.
