Anyone who comes to Erie to visit has to visit the State Park of Presque Isle. The long history is highly debated as to who found the peninsula that juts off into beautiful Lake Erie but most Erieites agree that it was Joe Root. He now even has a wonderful little restaurant named after him that you can go to and read the history on their menu!
The park has access to both lake side and bay side, offering an array of good times for everyone. Boaters will enjoy the Marina area and launch area where you can launch your boat for free. No fees are collected at the gate so visitors are not only welcome, they're encouraged to enjoy the beautiful offerings of Lake Erie, free of charge.
There is a place to rent canoes, bikes and even camping at the entrance of the park. Swimming is only allowed on guarded beaches but during the highlight of the summer season there are usually guards on duty from sun up to sun down. A children's park is available. Cabins can be rented for large picnics. Pavilions are available, free of charge on a first come first serve basis. Bikers and hikers alike can enjoy the path that encompasses the vast majority of the park area.
Known for one of the most beautiful sunsets around, I encourage you to stay long enough to enjoy a simple, calming sunset after a day of hard play.

Hockey is a much more exciting game to watch in person than on tv - you can get the speed and power of the game - and really appreciate the way the game is played. The Ontario Hockey League offers a chance to see young players and watch them develop - and since most players stay with their team for more than one year you feel like you know them personally. The Otters game night staff goes above and beyond to put together something for both the rabid hockey fan as well as the sports fan looking for something to do. Tickets are reasonable - and close to home!!

If you get a chance to go to Splash Lagoon -- go! It has many slides, great food and just a relaxing atmosphere. It is so much fun. I highly recommend it for families, but my husband and I have also gone by ourselves for a few hours. Don't miss it! They have a large children's area where the water is only a few inches high which is great for the little ones. It's just a great experience that your children will love, especially in the winter months to break the monotony.

This is by far the best restaurant in Erie, PA...
When we took our first trip to Splash Lagoon- we heard about this place called Quaker Steak & Lube.. Now the name really turned me off--- But then I heard they claimed to have the best chicken wings in the U.S. so I was back on-
During the 3 say trip this is where we ate 2 dinners!
All I can say is OMG---- The wings were so good--- they have so many different sauces-- Atomic was the hottest-- the menu said a waiver had to be signed to order these-- Needless to say we didn't try them!
Many great positive points to the restaurant...
great wings-
great service
great prices
tons of parking-
The only bad thing was the wait for the food- We waited almost 1 hour! With 3 families and 4 hungry kids this wasn't fun. But the restaurant is so neat that it didn't matter- All throughout the restaurant there are cool things to look at- cars, pictures, a race boat suspended from the ceiling, disco guitars... I took my daughter around and we looked at all the neat stuff---
I have never been in a restaurant that was this well decorated! I was totally cool.
Were the chicken wings the best in the U.S? Not to me--- I'm close to Buffalo---- but they were great!
SO if you're in the area--- Be sure to not let the name scare you off--- after all who wants to eat at a place called Lube??
Its a great time!

This store screams olden days when Little Italy was alive and thriving. Those days when grandpa pulled his checkered pants up to his chest and wore his penny loafers to go grab a cigar and paper over at "The Store".
Dees News is known for being a local hangout for the old Italian men of Erie. You walk in and smile instantly as you recall the days gramps came home late because Tony and him had some things to talk about! But he always had a paper under his arm and a couple magazines to boot. And don't forget those cigars tucked in his pocket and of course a couple of the penny candies in his jacket for you!
It's filled with anything and everything and somehow has thrived through any and every imaginable time Erie has gone through. Magazines, newspapers, smokers items and more you will never feel like the year 2000 is even close once you step inside! It's truly an Erie icon!
And believe it or not, Dee's still cashes some of the old guys' checks just like in the olden days when they got paid and went to Dee's to cash their pay check! It's amazing!
