Erie County Farms is known throughout the area as the best place to pick up some inexpensive food items. Their meat selection is always fresh and well priced. Their deli, while no longer the only place in Erie to get a deal, always offers reasonable and sometimes down right cheap prices.
Produce, especially typical common types, is almost always fresh and probably the least expensive you will find. What I love most is that in the summer time you can always count on local produce being sold also. While a lot of chain grocers will put out items shipped in from out of town, Erie County Farms tends to deal with a lot of local farmers.
The biggest drawbacks are parking and the crowds that sometimes get a little 'rough' and hectic.
If you're willing to put up with the pushing and shoving.. you can get some excellent deals.

This place is a nut house!!! I can honestly say, the prices aren't anything that I find are so wonderful that I truly take my own life in my hands to enter a building of crazy people, willing to run each other over for a freaking chicken leg!!!! Seriously, this place is too nuts for my liking. I'll pay that extra 10 cents a pound for something or resort to buying what's on sale in order to match prices on meats before I bother with the rampaging crazies in this store!
Their hours are completely unknown anymore with the owner closing for weeks on end. Unless you frequent there often or watch the paper for the announcement that they are closing for a few weeks you have no idea, drive over to the store and find it closed for the next 2 weeks or so.
The produce truly is not anything to brag about. I find much better quality at Wegmann's and if it's a sale item it isn't much if any higher in price. If it's something 'special' beware... we purchased a Santa Claus Melon only to find it moldy inside. The price wasn't any better than I would have paid at Wegman's and at least Wegman's would have been fresh!
The meats aren't of the highest quality by any means. You can get same grade or better at the same price if you watch the sales. Lunch meats can be found for just as cheap at Greenbergs Country Store on West 32nd and without the pushing and shoving!

I love shopping at Erie County Farms. All their fruits, vegetables and meats are fresh and reasonably priced. You have to be careful when you go because they are always busy, but the checkout lines move fast. All the freshness items are worth the crowds! They also have great prices on fish. They sell meat in large packages and happily slice it any way you want, free of charge and they do it quickly for you.
